Since it was brought to my attention that "if you don't post a picture of your guitar, it doesn't exist." I have decided to post some pix of my new score that I bought this past weds. The pix I took make the neck look clean but in person this neck is really really dirty. I was actually thinking about stripping this guitar and refinishing it in either Transparent purple or Transparent Blue but I need to find the silk screen decals to put back on before I'll do it. Take a look and let me know what you think.

Nice photos of a nice guitar.

That neck will look awesome - just follow the advice on your other thread.

IMO I would nor refin the guitar - it looks great as it is.

Check out my thread in the discussion forum and get some guitar scratch remover and treat the back of the guitar - it will also come up great - once again b4 and apres photos would be great on the forum.

Of course, it is your guitar and you are free to do what you wish, but I would leave the guitar as-is. On the neck, I would simply hit it with either some Wonder Wipes, or a stiff bristled toothbrush and some lemon oil.

I know alot of guys are heartbroken if their guitar doesn't always look brand new. Don't get me wrong, you should regularly maintain and clean your guitar, but if the fretboard or neck starts to darken over time, I just go with it. If you get a couple scapes, dings, pick or buckle rash, it's okay. It just shows that the guitar hasn't spent it's life in the case.

In my opinion that guitar is gorgeous as is, maybe a little touch ups here and there, but I would keep the color. Its definitely fantastic. Trans gold isn't my favorite finish, but even if I owned that one I would keep it like that.

I want to refinish it b/c I've always wanted a trans blue or purple or a goldtop EBMM axis, they are just to damn hard to find and I dont have $2,000 grand to shell out. Trust me lol I'm know what I'm doing when it comes to finishing, I'm too not worried about messing up on the finishing job I've been doing guitar finishing and repairs for about 10yrs. I just need to find the damn silk screen decal to put back on. Here's a few snaps of some guitars I've built and finished.

If you know what you're doing than Purple is the way to go IMHO. Out of all the Axis colours, purple is by far my fav. Too bad it was discontinued.

And I’m sure you know we would all want to see pics of the step by step process.

I must say you do great work but I still would keep the Amber finish. I love Blue to but my two EVHs are Amber and Pink and my Axis is Natural. But I would rather wait for the right time to get a Blue quilt then to strip off and do a refin. Besides even though it might not matter to you would you want to kill the resale value.

Nice guitar killer top no need to refinish, but if you want too your axe, just keep in mind any decal would be an illegal one, EBMM does not provide them to the general public.

Also its frowned upon to post non EBMM guitars on this forum.
EBMM do not use decals so whatever method you end up using wont look the same.

I would recommend not wasting that flame top with a solid colour. It is a waste.
If I was you I would look out for a solid topped one and do what you like.

It is a crime to waste such a beautiful finish.

Yeah your right guys I'll keep it in it's original state. Well I'm off to the store to get some Murphy's oils soap so I can clean up the fingerboard. I'll post some pix when I'm done.

Flamey !!! Leave it alone, IMO.

That is a nice flamey top indeed

Whew!

The soap and a tooth brush should see you through.
Do you think you will need to sand like the video showed or perhaps some (synthetic) steel wool?

Did I mention that is a nice flamey top?
