After I got my JP (which later got sold) and my 25th I quite literally played them for ten minutes, looked at my Les Paul, then lol'd for about 5minutes straight.
Same thing happened while I was test driving a custom shop '69 strat, then my SIlo Spec came in. Same thing. EBMM's are enlightening. As wonderful as Strats and LP's are, there's just something really special about EBMM's.
That actually happened to me the other way round. After I got my first les Paul that was really good (after a few) it was like "oooh! NOW I get it!"
So much so that my custom build was centered around a les Paul, but without the hang ups I didn't like. Brazilian rw, eastern maple top, light weight honduran mahogany, a double cut, custom pickups, locking tuners and a tummy contour. It still sounds like a les Paul, but much much better made and sounds better than most. Oh, and a custom inlay I designed myself.
I'm using ebmms now mainly for the things I can't get anywhere else better, like a killer piezo equipped 7 string, and a great piezo equipped 6 string shred guitar that's being refretted with jumbo frets.
