You can't believe the day I've had.

I was planning on selling my ASS LE w/ MM90s because the P90's weren't quite what I was wanting. The thing is about 60 days old and mint.

I found my dream guitar, a used but "New" JP6 in Mystic Dream, FULLY LOADED, for a ridiculous price. I was going to buy it tonight.

In my search, I also found and purchased today that Egyptian Smoke JP6 w/ the unreal birdseye neck. Someone put the link up on Ebay Treasures so I got a hold of that guy. Turns out, it was a Forum member's guitar previous! Katana6506 's guitar at one time!

http://www.ernieball.com/forums/music-man-guitars/17698-fs-my-petrucci-dd-gas.html

I bought it from the guy that bought it off of him. He wanted to sell it to buy this Suhr guitar he loves.

So, I took my ASS LE outside to take some pix of it while the sun was setting. I forgot my polish, and noticed some finger prints, so I wanted to bring it back in side to take pix another day. It looked awesome in the sun though. I was getting too much light, and my camera wasn't taking real good shots anyway. So, I put it in the case and went to go back inside.

Apparently, the center latch on my case didn't catch right, and BOOM, out falls the guitar onto gravel and concrete... FACE FIRST.

I thought that I was having a stroke! I was shocked. I stood there frozen like a dumb ass! I scooped it up and immediately inspected it, only to find some light scratches. Oh, and two big gouges down to the wood. AAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, doesn't look like I'll be able to sell her now. It was dead mint, then minutes later was wrecked. So, I'm going to have to keep it just because I can't take a monster loss on it. I certainly didn't want this to happen, but at the same time, the damage doesn't really bother me all that much cuz it's all on the back. The front is perfect, and the neck is without a scratch. Keep in mind, the guitar only fell about a foot. And thank god I had most of the plastic still on the back too (I just took it off).

So, double bad news for me. I'm stuck with a guitar that's gorgeous, but I don't want it. Can't afford to sell it at a big loss, and now most likely can't buy my dream guitar, the MD JP6.

The good news is that Tuesday I'll have an ES JP6 at a killer price!

Here are the before and after shots. Keep in mind, there are some fingerprints on it. And also, the ceiling of my office casts weird reflections on to the surface.

Feel my pain people!

Hey J that really sucks man, I do feel your pain, but if there is a bright side that is a killer looking JP you have coming, what a great neck.

As far as my not digging the MM90's... I think I'm going to have to spend time setting up my amp FOR that kind of PU. To be fair, my settings are for the Luke. I mute, grab the ASS, un-mute, and go without making any adjustments. And that's probl not the thing to do. My buddy has these custom wound Seymors that require NO adjustments. They are the cat's ass. But I think that I should probl spend time tailoring my amp settings to work w/ the MM90's a bit better. I know there has to be some killer sounds in there, as I love the P90's in the SG Special (They are beyond noisy though).

That being said... someone suggested Bare Knuckle PU's. I checked them out, and they seem to make really good stuff. Anyone else know of a company that makes really rockin' P-90's? I'm a classic rock player, not a clean or country type guy.

So, if I can get happy w/ this thing, I'll be just fine. Damage or no damage. Cosmetics don't have jack squat on great finishes and great wood! Besides, dented up and half smashed guitars never had an effect on one of my heroes: Pete Townshend! So I should just shut up already!

Thanks for the sympathy guys!

"OUCH" indeed! Man, If I didn't already have too many axis guitars, I'd buy it off of you...the dings don't bother me.

Seems like you're keeping a pretty good attitude about it...I had my white axis sport in the stand on my gig last Friday, and a (drunk) friend of mine knocked it over FACE first on the hard floor. Not just once, but TWICE! I just stuck it in the case and didn't even look at it because I didn't want to sock her in the nose in front of everybody.

OUCH is right. but it does allow you to experiment a bit with the pups to suit your tastes and still keep the quality feel and playability of the ASS

You might want to look into a Rio Grande Blues Bar. I had that in a Reverend Hotshot Jr. and it was definitely a bit raunchier than the MM90's.

That's a bummer dude... and see my signature to see how I really really do feel for you. It's a sickening feeling when something so significant happens to a guitar like that... of any brand. When it's a big deal to have it... it's a bigger deal to lose it.

My recommendation on the p90s is to get really familiar with that guitar through your regular setup and settings. Whether you like it or not, don't change anything yet. Find out everything you can about how that guitar responds to your normal setup. Then, try to see where it might fit in a setlist from there. At that point, instead of needing to change your sounds, maybe you can pickup an eq pedal to throw in the loop for when you play that guitar, or even just find a song that it just happens to make sound really authentic.

I don't know of any rock recordings off the top of my head that are stereotypical p90 recordings, other than maybe some Eagles tunes... maybe?

Those other guitars you have cover a lot of tonal ground. I'd think it wouldn't be a great idea to change your whole amp and effects settings for this one guitar, when it would probably be better to find a way to make that guitar fit in with all that you do anyway.

The EQ pedal is a GREAT idea...I used to do that when changing between a strat and les paul and the EQ pedal is great as a boost for solos, too.

Thanks for the advise guys. Jeff... I can't believe that happened to your guitar TWICE!! have you gave it the once over yet??

And Kevin... that is the ultimate in BUMMER. I'm an insurance agent, and if you had "scheduled it", it would have been covered with no ded (if you choose... usually that's the case on a schedule), and on a "no matter what" basis. For a price of course... but that price is pretty good in comparison!

Keep in mind, I have a programmable Spider Valve... It's nothing for me to tweak my sounds and save them to an "ASS" bank.

But yes... i need to get more familiar with it before blowing cash on PU's.

You know, part of me is pretty darn excited to now get to keep it. Despite the PU's, I just love it. And don't get me wrong... the PU's aren't bad. It's how Im able to utilize them at this point that is the concern.

Seems like DiMarzio makes some really cool P-90's. But the proof is in the pudding. I tend to go for the more boutique PU's like WCR, Bare Knuckle, WB, etc. But that's not to say the DiMarzio's are bad.

I still might go ahead and buy that Mystic Dream if it pans out. I can't really pass up the deal. It's "Too low to print folks!!" HA!! However, since I'll have a JP6, granted... not loaded but so what... I could watch out for a Silo maybe. I've honestly never even picked one up or looked at one in person. I have no idea of what the "mojo" is about those things. Or, a kick booty Sport would be sweet.

If it's any consolation I did the exact same thing with a beautiful brand new Rick 4001 bass while I was removing it from the trunk of my car after bringing it home from the store. Everytime I looked at it I relived that terrible moment. Then I got seriously ill and was fortunate enough to make a full recovery. Then it didn't matter anymore :)

This is a perfect example why nicks, dings, gashes, and gouges don't mean a thing in the grand scheme of things.

Quit worrying, people! :)

Dude, that sucks monster @$$. But look at it this way: It's still an excellent instrument. One that you can relax with and play all out on, mod till your sick or even have it re-finished one day and restored to pristine. You didn't "lose" anything. Give it some time and you'll get over the shock of the thing and find you still love the guitar. Throw some different pups in it for now and see what you can make it do.

The BKP92s are good hot Bareknuckle P90s. Well worth checking out.
