Well guys, let me say that it was a tough decision for me, but opportunity presented itself, and I had to take advantage of it.

Long story short, I traded my Axis and my Line 6 Flextone Plus for a Budda Superdrive 18 and a 50s re-issue Fender Strat MIM.

The long story is that I happened across the Budda this week while in Cherry Street Guitar in Galesburg. I was curious as to what it sounded like, so I tried it out. I was completely blown away by it. I also was looking at the 50s re-issue strat that he had in used for possibly a second guitar. He told me he had the Budda marked at $1200 because it had been there awhile, and he wanted to sell it. The Strat was marked at $350. Yes, I know, the prices there are usually like that. Bruce is very reasonable. In fact, he is so reasonable that when I jokingly remarked that "I should bring in my Axis and my Line 6 and do an even swap with you.", he thought for a second and said, "Yeah, I think we can make that happen."
Well, things change when that idea turns from a joke into reality. I don't know about where you guys are from, but around Central Illinois, Budda amps are pretty rare, especially at that price. After thinking about it a couple days, I decided to make it happen. Now here is where you learn what kind of a guy Bruce is. I brought in my stuff and let him take a look at it. He inspected it all, and was satisfied. I asked him if, as part of the deal, he would throw in a Seymour Duncan JB Junior, because I prefer a humbucker in the bridge position. He said no problem. He then let me use his set-up and repair room to install the new pickup, and set up the guitar to my liking. I got the Fender set up, and the new pickup in , and tried it out through the Budda. Now, when the whole thing started, he told me up-front that the Fender did not come it with a case when he got it on trade, so I fully expected for him to give me some cheap gig bag to put it in, but when he came out of the back, he had one of those fabric hard cases. It's one of the ones that looks and functions like a hard shell case in every way, except it has a fabric outer shell instead of wood and tolex. I thought that was very generous of him, considering the trade and the fact that no money changed hands. He could have, and probably should have given me the cheapest gig bag in the store.

So, here is how the trade breaks down:
Seymour Duncan JB JR. pickup(New)-------------$69
Fender 50s reissue Strat(Used)-------------------$350
Budda Superdrive 18 series 2 1x12 combo (New)----------$1250
Sales Tax----------------------------------------------$121

That total is, $1790
The case showed up nowhere on the paperwork, so who knows how much he gave me there.

That is $1790 for a used EBMM Axis and a used Line 6 Flextone Plus with extension cabinet and foot controller. If you break it down that the Axis would sell for, oh, $1100, and the Line 6 would sell for about $600, that still puts Bruce $90 in the hole. I don't know how he does it, but God love him.

I just wanted you guys to see why I couldn't pass this deal up before you lay the verbal smack-down on me for getting rid of my baby. I can promise you this, I will own an EBMM again.

I asked Bruce what he planned to do with my old Axis, whether he would E-Bay it or leave it in his store. He said he planned to leave it in the store for a while and see how it does. He said he had considered keeping it for himself. I told him that would make me feel better about getting rid of it, because I know he would appreciate it and take good care of it.

If you ever get a chance to deal with Bruce from Cherry Street Guitar, I highly recommend him. Oh, and he is an EBMM dealer too.

I'll still be around the boards, even though I'm not officially an EBMM owner at the moment, because I can't bring myself to leave such a great community, and I believe in the product.

Um, no. Not even close, although the F**der does sound good. I will say the Strat does do clean a bit better, but that's to be expected with more options on the pickup selections. Where you really notice the difference is on the dirt channel with the gain up. The Axis absolutely and completely smokes the Strat.

When you get another EBMM someday, you'll have a killer combination!

Wait, so why in the heck did you not just get the amp, and keep the Axis!?!?!?!?! I mean if he's so cool I'm sure you could have just gotten an awesome deal for the Budda if you were to just trade with the Line 6 and then maybe some extra cash. I think by you doing this you are basically in the loss, because another EBMM is gonna cost you......well you should know. Just my opinion! But if you're happy, than that's all cool I guess.

I would have loved to have done exactly that, but I have those pesky priorities. Just started sending my 3 kids to Catholic school this year, and I have to pay tuition. It's not like I couldn't have done it, but it would have meant putting it on the credit card, and I'm just not willing to do that. I've kind of been thinking about a change anyway, and my next EBMM may not even be an Axis. I may go with a Silo Special for my next EBMM.
