My Axis is here!!! OMG!!!! Amazing!!!!

Wow! The guitar arrived at 4:00 my time. I unpacked it and did a quick tune-up and went into my music room. Warming up the Bogner seemed like the longest minute of my life. Flipped the standby, turned up the volume on the guitar and............nothing! I forgot to plug the damn thing into the amp. OK, plugged in, I roll up the volume on the guitar and what is this sound? See, I am used to Les Pauls. This cuts more than the PAF pickups I used, but it is not as hot (to my ears anyway) as the Burstbucker 2 pickups. Not a problem. Crank the gain a little more on the amp, dial in my tone a little, and then I start ripping. The neck and small body took me about 2 seconds to get used to, felt great. This thing is really sounding great as I step through the channels on the Bogner. I usually don't use the red channel much, but this guitar loves the red channel. I pulled out an old nugget from a previous musical lifetime that I haven't played in years, Cumin Atcha Live.............Holy Sh......, I absolutely nailed the sounds I remember from so long ago. The Floyd is a joy on this thing (haven't used one in a long time), the tone rocks, it plays like a dream.

Did I mention how gorgeous it is? It is a fabulous looking guitar. Funny thing is, with some of the other guitars I have or have had, I look and go, "Oh man, look how nice it looks". This one I couldn't wait to play, and I don't even think I bothered looking at it until well after I started playing it.

Anyway, Kudos EB-MM, the Axis kicks; of course you don't need me to tell you that.

Forgot that the first thing I did was to put a set of the new EB Straplocks on the guitar.

Oh....be ready to be spoiled by the axis and it's light weight and smaller dimensions. I was at GC yesterday looking at bass' for my son and of course, they wanted me to consider what I should add next to my collection. The 52 Les Paul re-issue was just "blea" to me. The Jazzmaster (never played one) seemed like I was playing a bulldozer. Came home and played the sub1 for a while and the axis afterwards. Nice to get back to "real" guitars.

Yeah, I love the historic Les Pauls, but the 52 is a dog, and although I had a nice early 60's Jazzmaster, I generally don't like those either. I sold mine for some fat cash though. Most of the other Historic Les Pauls are worth the time playing, and I love them, but the prices on the 59 and 60 reissues with nice tops are around $5K, and these days that is just too much. The 57 Goldtop and 58 plaintops sound and feel as good, but are much more reasonably priced (my Gibson guy gets them for me for around $2500 new).

I love my new Axis though, and wasn't expecting so much for so little cash-wise. I'll always play Les Pauls, but this guitar is very versatile with the bar, the light weight, good looks and easy playability, so it is a top use guitar for me.

I got a Les Paul Studio recently as I figured I 'needed' one. Whilst its a really nice axe, its a big old clonk of wood compared to the Axis guitars I normally play. Its like have two Axis guitars glued together!
