I just got my Axis back from the shop, I got it re-fretted. Had the guy put stainless frets in, and it is AWESOME! I wore this baby out in 3 years, so I figured I would get something more durable. The sound is a touch brighter, but I like it. I was going crazy the past month without it. I've been having to play my wolfgang in the interim (not even close). If anyone plays as hard as me, I highly recommend the stainless frets, they are killer.:)

Sound clip? What are normal frets made of? Thing must be real bright, I would imagine. What was the cost if you don't mind?

I'll try to post a sound clip tommorow, after work I am off to NYC to play a gig. I live in the Harrisburg area of PA, so we have a nice hike. But it will be fun. If anyone is in Manhattan, I'll be at Fatbaby's, on the lower east side, 112 rivington street. You can hear it live and in person @ 10pm sharp! I'll also post some pics tommorow as well. It cost me around $400, I'm not sure what the original frets are made of. I just know that I played the S$#% out of them and killed them in 3 years. That was including 3 repairs to crown them, one of them being the great guys at the MM factory. I called them first, but they would only put the originals in again. so I chose this route, and I am very happy to say the least. My goal is to get a Petrucci next, but I need to make some dough with the Axis first. Hopefully by next summer. I'll check in tommorow with the clips and pics. Rock on knuckleheads!:D

Yes, they feel alot smoother, bends are effortless and silky smooth. Sorry guys, I still haven't had a chance to get some pics or clips up. Hopefully by the weekend.

400$ for stainless steel and a re-fret ?
that seems way too steep.
normal frets are made of nickel i believe

I would imagine they feel harder, therefore less give, therefore smoother on a bend. Sounds great. Send me the guitar and I'll post my review :)

I play really hard, and bend notes all the time, sometimes one and a half steps. I've always killed my guitars quickly, I don't know why. My first guitar, a strat, killed the frets in 2 years. I was playing roughly 10-12 hours a day back then. :D
