well this is something me and my friend noticed the minute I brought the guitar out from its case

The guitar has a very distinctive smell

almost like coffee but not,its a smell all of its own and....

its actually quite nice, that nice that my friend hopes his JP7 Desert Gold Matching headstock also has this smell(its on order)

is this a characteristic of the birdseye maple(as the smell seems to be from the neck) or is it the gunstock oil and hand-rubbed special wax blend.

or perhaps its something in the case

i was just curious to see if anyone else's balls smell and particularly petrucci's

thanks

Actually, I thought my Petrucci smelled more like a bike when I opened the case, so maybe each JP has its own distinctive scent.

Lets hope you're friend doesnt get the "Natural Gas" version. Gross.

USA, for now, but a Brit at heart
wow, you guys didn't know?
starting this year, EBMM, in an effort to further seperate themselves from the pack, has started infusing their guitars with unique smells; for example: new car smell, leather, coffee, green apple, etc.
they have accomplished this thru a joint venture with Yankee Candle. Also,if you go online with Yankee candle, you will find a new line named respectively after each EBMM guitar.

Its the gunstock oil I think. Very appealing smell. They should sell it as an air freshner. I'm glad my balls smell like they do :-D

I used to leave my A.S.S. in it's case so I could open it back up and catch that wonderful smell when I wanted to play it. Silly but true. HAHA

It's just the NEW guitar smell. I have the same with my 20th Silo and Silo Special, but the 20th especially exudes these "new" fumes hehe. The two do have a slightly different scent. Maybe it's the smell of the amazing colors...I need the smellOscope to figure this one out :D.

I think they make a cream that will take that smell away. :p

There is a distinct smell with Ernie Ball guitars, and Earthwood strings too. mmm brown sugar.

Dudes, i don't think it has anything to do with anything. My 93 strat and case smells like that, my 06 tele and case smell like that, and my axis and case smell that way...The smell is exactly how you described it, sort of coffee like.

Are you the original owner? If not, the previous owner may have had a thing for dunking donuts in coffee and shredding the crumbs off.

where is Big Poppa when you need him he is th eone who can wrap this up

there will be an explanation to this

Im saying its the gunoil used on the neck!!!

And if Im right and it isnt a think every other guitar has then you all have to send me your balls....

I will then axe them and send them back piece by peice :p:p:p

I agree with the oil/wax theory for case smell. But what about the Earthwood and brow sugar mystery?

oh yeah! my wolfgang smells that way too! I honestly dont think its the oil or wax. the fenders have finished necks (which dont feel as badly as some of you make them out to be)...Not tryin to give you a hard time, just sayin... If you're wrong, it would only be right if you sent your JP to me, but not for a chopping :D
