i have finally got some o.k pictures of my ax!! took long enough i know. i have also a demo ill be putting hopefully on the weekend.

but thats not why im putting this thread up. i have recently purchased a wilkinson bridge. I want a Ball with a floyd, or at least a bridge that can go 2 ways. Due to my condition, the lefty floyd i crave cannot be helped. but thats ok, im going through with this operation. i feel this is the only way i can save myself from insanity.

my father just purchased a JP6 egyption smoke with a peizo. i love the JP6 bridge, and the wilkinson is as close as i can get. wish me luck on my indure as i hope all goes well

I'm confused, you have a piezo equipped JP and you'd like a locking trem so you bought a wilkinson? What are your plans for the piezo?

Hey Colin,

Jake has the Silhouette. His dad just picked up a JP. And Jake likes the JP bridge. Cause it's a floater. So he wants to replace the Silhouette bridge with a Wilkinson. To try and get a floater as well.

Jake why don't you just set up the Silhouette bridge so it floats a bit.

Oh yah ... Scott's right on the money. Just loosen the claw some (or remove a spring) so the trem floats slightly.

This is exactly how the Luke is set up- same vintage trem, but it floats so you can pull up a minor third on the G string.

On my Axis SS i have the trem set uo to float like on my Luke (a little less, just a whole tone on the Low E), i like it a lot because i use the trem a lot in my playing, plus it stays perfectly in tune as well as when it was in contact with the top... so...

See Jake. I told you this forum was a good place to hang out. Very informative and helpful. Definately try to float the bridge first. Probably the easiest way, is like Beej said, remove one of the springs and retune. If that's not to your liking, put the spring back one and back out the trem claws a bit. Don't go too crazy with the amount of space between the trem and body, though. Also, like the guys said the Luke comes from the factory that way. So, there shouldn't be a problem.

I got a little nervous when you said you were going to operate on your balls.:D

P.S. How's your Dad liking the Petrucci.

The floating vintage trem on my Luke works like a charm. The tuning stability is really good. It's the perfect tremolo system for me...

My dad plays big old Guild Jazz hollowbodies from the 1950's (Chet Atkins/Joe Pass style player) - of course he's 68 years old . . .

How cool is it that your Dad plays a JP :D

Then again . . . I have 3 teenage kids that play now . . . and their dad plays a JP . . .

Head hurts

Oh well. Dads can play shredder guitars. :)

Glad it works for ya, Jake. Yeah, the last time I talked to your dad, I remember him saying he ordered Mystic Dream. At least he likes the colour he got. Egyptian Smoke looks killer on the JP.

Ha, Ha. You said it. Who says old guys have to play old guitars. I'd love to see your dad shred on a JP.

Jake's dad is a very nice guy. Plays a lot of cool guitars, too.:D
