Went into the studio this week to track 3 songs. We got a crazy deal, it was for an audio experiment. They wanted to record a band and try 2 songs, one recorded with all of the best gear they had, with a full outboard mix, the other with nothing over $100 bucks used in the signal path (mics, pre amps, etc, and all mixing in the box with just standard plugins. It went very well, songs sound great. We did two songs with the killer gear, and one with the inexpensive. This guy was great, the cheap song sounds on par with the other two. Anyway, here is a pic of my 2 balls, I tracked them with my DSL100 head, an orange 212 with vintage 30's, and just a 57 in front of it. My gold one has the stainless frets, the vintage sunburst has the stock frets. If you want to hear the difference, the gold is in the left channel, the vintage sunburst is in the right. Check it out on our myspace page: www.myspace.com/frictionbroadcast. The track we uploaded is called "Mystery". Let me know what you guys think.

Nice stuff, playing, tones, vocals, material and recording quality. I'll venture to guess that Mystery was recorded with the higher end gear?

Sounds great! I'd be curious to hear the song recorded with the cheap stuff compared to the one done with the expensive gear.

Great band...nice guitars...I'm an axis fanatic! I just picked up my fourth one, it's an amber one with a floyd like yours.

rock on, my friend.

Thanks alot guys. First, the extra switch on the amber Axis an on/off toggle, I use it to do the Tom Morrello thing. The cheap song is called Paranoia. The engineer we used is really good, I think it sounds great. It is on the myspace page. You can hear that the vocals have a little more high end to them, but all in all, it still sounded great. I didn't post about that song, mainly because I played a strat on it, I need to pick up a Silo to replace it, then I will be a manly man with 3 balls!

What would you say are your band's main influences? I hear a lot of stuff here...

Sounds good though! Harrisburg, eh?

I would say I love both guitars. The stainless frets have a little more brightness to it, I like it for some things.

Interesting. I just relocated to Harrisburg from an hour and a half north and heard Rick's band on the homegrown show on the radio earlier this week. They were also on a few months ago when I was doing the commute. They definitely rock and it's even better knowing it's another forumite I'm hearing.

Hey lovechick thanks? Where are you from 'round here? We just played the Toys For Tots benefit at Shakeys tonight, it was a complete blast. We donated a Guitar package consisting of an OLP Axis copy, and a marshall amp. The marines are going to find a kid with talent that is from a poor family who can't afford an instrument. We did it last year with a bass, and the kid who got it drags it to school everyday, plays it in the band. I hope the kid who gets this guitar turns into an Ernieball fan and can upgrade to an EB someday. That would be cool. Anyway, we are playing Tubby's in Duncannon next Saturday night, it would cool to meet a fellow forumite if you want to come out.
