So, new band and first jam/rehearsal tonight. Boy oh boy. It's true ya know. They say to try and only play with people better than yourself. So i did tonight.

Lots of weird stuff. The odd time sigs I can cope with. I gave them one of mine that the drummer worked out to be in 13/8 whci h we both thought was pretty cool. But it was more the tonality and scales. The bass player is very into world music and the scales he was throwing at me. Straight over my head!! Raga scales!! Anybody know anything about that?

I'm fried. I think they liked my playing but I dunno if i got the gig. I'm way out of my comfort zone and its good!

On a side note, I cut my thumb on my left hand before I went out. But because there's no finish on the neck of my JP6 it was no problemo! I could see that hurting on a finished neck.

Im waffling. Im pooped. Good night all!:D

Raga scales are basically Indian scales, they have different sets of notes descending and ascending, they are more like melody lines than scales though, and quite a few different versions too, check out John McLaughlin's Shakti and some stuff from Mahavishnu Orchestra for more examples of them, he uses them beautifully!

Some basic Indian scales are:
1 | b2 | 4 | 5 | b6 (ascending)
1 | b7 | b6 | 5 | 4 | b3 | b2 (descending)

They are different versions too, but I can't seem to recall them...

Good luck with the bassist :D
