Tiff, I have the D50 and you'll never even THINK about megapixels once you see what this camera can do.

Low res versions here:

The DSLRs are such a step up in quality that the megapixel issue never comes up, at least for me. I've had some 8x10s made and the difference is just stunning.

The D50 is becoming quite a bargain, too, at least here. Prices seem to be falling quite nicely.

You should see the raw or uncompressed photos/files, James.

I mean, you're only getting so much over the 'net.

I could easily print 16x10s off those original files.

What's an Oly P.A.S.?

That's the impressive part!

Olympia point-and-shoot...I used it to snap the shot of the Stealth Bongo on the October page.

Hit-and-miss is a better term.

I think Olympus makes one of the better point and shoot digitals.

I had two of them, in fact. If I wanted another mom-and-pop point and shoot, I'd probably buy another Olympus.

But this is a definite step up. Koogs has one, I think, too.

Step up like....Rogue to Bongo. Big time.

And of course there are all those snappy Nikkor lenses you can use.

I just sold off all my Canon film cameras. Just don't need 'em anymore, and I'd had the F1 for decades.

My man, there is no one on this earth who is more 'bodge' than yours truly, of this I can assure you.

If only I knew what 'bodge' meant.

SOLD! does the bass come with it?

lol. yeah i have a gorgeous old 70's olympus SLR with a billion lenses, it takes the best photos but most people dont wait around for half an hour while i focus it lol.

im wanting something with an auto focus and thought id better go digital.
ill still keep the 35mm around though cause itll be worth a tonne and ill never get sick of film, i just need to build my darkroom.

what sort of prices are they in US, contemplating wether to buy now or add it to my list of things to buy in the states. (SR5 is top of that list) ....nobody needs an au pair do they?

oh ps sorry for hijacking the thread.

Right now at Best Buy, a large and unwieldy electronics retailer, this package:

"D50 Outfit DX-format RGB CCD; 18-55mm ED AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor lens with 3x optical zoom" is selling for about 700 bucks.

Might be even cheaper elsewhere.

Ship confirmation came today--can't wait to see it IRL.

I have a 35mm Canon T170 that's been great for 20+ years. Am contempating a DSLR but not 'sold' on them just yet. Jack your D50 pics look very good.

P.S. Tiffles, there *are* a few of us female types here, just not many.
