Life its so strange, I was discussing the very subject by pm with Jack (bovinehost) about relatives dying this late afternoon (UK time that is) and an hour later after our pm exchanges, I received a phone call from my brother in Italy, informing me that my father passed away following a heart attack.

Now I am rushing to find a replacement for my work and book myself on a flight to Italy earliest Sat evening or Sun morning to attend the funerals.

Best thing I remember about my father is how he got me to listen to Jazz, at a very young age, artists such as Louis Armstrong, Coleman Hawkins, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles, Ella, etc etc, mostly Be-Bop artist which were our favourite, oh yes and I remember his vaste collection of Django Reinhardt bachelite records on very thick discs way before 12" LP's were in vogue. What a guitarist that was, two fingers on his right hand... blazing speed none-the-less.

My worst regret is not being there to say goodbye while my father was still alive. I feel numb now and his passing hasn't quite registered in me yet, but I am sure it will hit me in the face when I am there to bury him.

Cheers
Fran

My very deepest condolences to you and yours.
I lost my father at age 77 back in 2003 after his long battle with the big freeking C, and my mother back in 1976 at age 50.
It's a lonely feeling with both parents gone. I miss both of them every day.

I am thankful for both my parents, and for them always allowing me my music.

Blessings brother.

Fran, I've just returned home from a holiday to find out that my father has been rushed into hospital to have triple bypass surgery. As a parent I know that you never stop loving your children (it's they way we're designed) your father would understand, it's like the law of gravity you can't change being designed to be loving your kids. He loved you, I hope you're OK?

You have my deepest sympathy for your loss. That's a terrible feeling, and though it will be hard, you'll get through it as a stronger person in the end.

Sorry Fran - I lost my Dad when he was only 70 - his 8th heart attack.

He too was a great musician - a fantastic drummer.

Thoughts are with you and your family. - Remember the good times - and also remember he is literally a part of you.

Once again huge thanks to all of you for your kind support, I was shocked at how many of you have lent support. Yes it has been tough, and such an unexpected event for all the family to cope with.

During the function I have taken a CD with some music and the main songs played during the function were Peter Gabriel's "Don't Give Up" featuring Tony Levin on bass, And Steve Ray Vaughan's Riviera Paradise.

Here is my dad's final resting place, in Naples, Italy

Wow, that's a place fit for a king! Seems like a very honorable, and beautiful place to be buried. I can only hope to have a kid as dedicated and caring as yourself.

My condolences to you and your family.

I lost my father to a heart attack when I was 19. There never is a chance to say good-bye with something like that.

Really sorry to hear that Fran.

Lost my Dad nearly 11 years ago now. You kind of adapt but the world does change forever.

I just make sure I hug both my kids every single day now.

best wishes

Hey Fran,
I'm so sorry to hear your unhappy news, I wish you many fond memories whenever the music your Dad introduced you to hits your ears, thankfully, my own Dear, Late Dad did the same for me with a substantial music collection and a significant array of audio equipment.

My most respectful thoughts and prayers are headed your way from Vancouver:)
ATB,

I'm sorry for your loss.........allowing myself to Grieve was the most important thing I did when my dad passed away a few years back......It allowed my to move forward in my life.....now I'm just filled with happy memories of Dad.....plus he was cremated, so in a little urn he sits in my pedal board case and comes to every gig I play......as a thank you for putting the love of music in my life.....
