So I decided to take the plunge. I just ordered my first axis. I already have my share of les Pauls and strats and ibanez, so I was thinking the axis would be a perfect compliment to my collection. The reason I ordered one rather than try and buy is that the price difference was quite significant. I was able to get a new axis in trans blue from amazon for 1500 with free shipping. This was easily $300 less than any where else. The only ones available at that price are the trans blue however. I'm now curious why the blues are so much cheaper? Is there any quality difference in terms of the fit and finish? Are the tops not as nice? Should I have spent the extra $300 to get the gold or orange? If this thing shows up and it's a dud I guess I can always return it. Anyone k ow why the blue is so much cheaper? I'm hoping it's because they are just less popular and haven't sold as well. If anyone is curious as to what I'm Talmud about just go to amazon and look for the ebmm axis.

Welcome noodler!
I'm not sure why they are cheaper to be honest, but I can say with certainty that you needn't worry about a difference in fit and finish or the quality of the top. They will be every bit as nice. The Axis will be a fantastic addition to your collection. I started with a Silhouette and an Axis, adding them to an already large collection. Since then, I've bought nothing but EBMMs. You'll be very happy.
Be sure to hang around the forums, there's lots to learn and read for enjoyment, and post pics of your new Axis when you get it. We love pics around here. Trans blue is an amazing finish, so I'm looking forward to the pics!

Congrats on the new MM. I have yet to see a MM that doesn't have a nice finish. I've seen some that I don't particularly care for the color but the finish is always nice. & I just love how they all feel. The only one I didn't like was a petrucci with a painted neck, the guitar was great, just not a fan of painted necks. To each his own!

I just picked up my first Axis, AX40 in Trans Blue, from Long and McQuade yesterday. I went in to buy a Gibson and walked out with the ErnieBall I've wanted for years.
The Blue is super sweet, you'll love it. The guitar required quite a bit of set-up out of the box but it was all fun.
