received it from Bass Central on friday (great prices, btw)...

worksmanship is superb, fit and feel is wonderful, and just beginning to explore the many sounds in this baby (currently dialing in a little extra bridge pup, and slight mid and bass boost),

beautiful candy apple red, and white pearl guard,

the strings are a little too zingy and clickety clacky for my taste... would appreciate recommendations (I don't care for the low tension of TI flats),

also considering a different pickguard.. can anyone recommend where to get custom guards? any recommendations on colors to go with CAR?

i think this one will be a keeper,

Congrats on the new Bongo.

For strings, I have fallen completely in love with Sadowsky flats. Great tone, but more tension than the TIs and very smooth to the touch.

For pickguards, I've had good luck with www.pickguards.us for Bongo pickguards, and he has some unique materials. Personally, I think mint green looks amazing with the CAR.

And, while I've gotten a custom pickguard from Bryan Boots, I haven't had any MM related experience with him, although I'm sure he'd be a good source, too. His selection is much, much smaller, though.

D'addario Chromes have worked well on my SR5....which, sadly is neither candy apple red, or a Bongo. But it's got its own thing going... :)

Now boys, we have a hard enough time with Other people bashing our well beloved Bongos, lets not start turning on each other. The Bongo is a Fantastic instrument. So is the Stingray, the Stingray five and the Sterling. Let's just leave it at that.

that's too funny. I wrote that and left the computer .... and missed the rightful tirade I received. ;)

I may find all my stuff thrown out on the sidewalk when I get home!

I do love my SR5. It has displaced a 76 Precision and a Cirrus 5 to become my #1 bass. But since I've posted no pictures, it could be completely fictional. I'll have to get on that.

You know all of these "I just got my bongo" threads are starting to wear on my will power. It drives me nuts that I havent tried Bongo one yet. There's not a music store any where remotely close that will carry one, and so im left to my imagination as to what they are like! I may just have to take a 2 hour trip to Birmingham to see if I can find one there. It has the next closest MM dealer to where I live but man Id hate to drive that far only to not find one.

The term "beloved " is reserved for Stingrays only so you have to use another word, such as "neato" or "cool" or "happy". Yeah, that's it......our "happy Bongos!"
