I'm 30 and I've always played straight in the amp...love my ENGL but I missed a few more gain, so the amp was hard to play with my legato...

so I bought a ridiculous cheap chineese pedal (belcat) and my life changed...I have all the qualities of my amp, with the little gain ad I've always wanted...

I've ordered the MXR gt overdrive custom shop...

I think I had a pedal BEFORE I got my first amp back in the day :D

Only by a few hours though...

Seriously though, that's amazing you've never had an overdrive pedal before now, even for home practice. I guess that opens up a new avenue of gear purchasing for you now though. Vintage Tube Screamer?

My current favorite is the Xotic BB preamp. It's very smooth and warm. I use it with my '71 Super Lead. It's also super transparent. The most transparent boost/OD pedal I've ever heard.

With my Bogner I like the OD808.

Nothing better than a 1980's vintage Boss SD-1. Awesome for giving that extra edge to almost any amp.

I get great clean sounds out of my rig, but the distortion sounds aren't so happening. I really like the Boss DS1 for my distortion needs. Mine's been moded, but the stock one rocks out of the box.

Tristan, love your YouTube and MP3 posts my man. You add a lot to the forum. It's great to have you around.

wow thats amazing, your first pedal, what took you so long????

it's a question of culture...I first started to play in multi FX units like zoom 9002 and korg A3...then I came into the rack thing...bogner, soldano, and all the stuf...to get more gain, I used to plug a rack compressor before the preamp...later on, when I get into amps, it was 5150 and it did not need no gain add...

the engl is my fave, but it just needs a little more drive...and I discovered the ovedrive concept via amplitube 2.... strange isnt' it ?

so now I play with the OD and even my clean sound is warmer than before...

I'm very happy with it, and now I can't wait my MXR custom shop :D
