Hello all:

I have been shopping for a new bass for several months - I have a '79 Fender Jazz bass that I love (I've modified the hell out of it) - but I was looking for a great 5 string to finish off (is that possible??) my arsenal. After reading 100's of reviews, etc. the Stingray 5 kept coming up as the 5 stringer to buy. So that's what I did. Before I rec'd it I was kind of leary about having a "single pickup" design. But after receiving it and logging as many hours as possible on it (I've had it a week) - I must say that this is the best instrument I've ever played!!! I've played everything from Alembic to Zon (no joke) - Some have been very nice but my SR5 is the bomb!!! (in a good way) - Anyone out there looking to buy a SR - if you're reading this - don't hesitate!! You won't go wrong here - I promise!

I searched and searched the internet for reviews, etc. on Music Man instruments and have yet to find anything bad said about them. That's a great reputation to have.

When I rec'd the item I was so shocked (by the way I bought this sight unseen from musicians friend) by the quality of this instrument when I opened the case. Very impressive! The instrument (and I checked) was flawless top to bottom.

The tone is awesome. When I practice at home, the kids are hiding under the bed - it's a monster!!

Anyway - this is a superb instrument that I'm extremely satisfied with. I look forward to a long and lasting relationship with my SR5.

*sniff sniff* I feel like a new man....

Amen! Congrats on your SR5. I've had mine for a while now and it just gets better. It's a bit of a "blue collar" bass and in some jazz-session player circles the SR5 is very poo-pooed for being just an unsofisticated bass with no real means of being a session caliber instrument BUT YA KNOW WHAT?!?! IT IS!!!!!!! I've consistently had nothing but "what great tone" with the work I've done, albeit no Grammy nominated material but paying gigs/sessions all the same and my SR5 has absolutely been killer.
Enjoy your new found friend and many great grooves!

:D

Yes I know what you're saying... I've seen some people frown on it because of it's "plain jane" attitude. But hey - if it works, who cares. I play a wide range of music and I really think that 90% will be played on my SR5 - as far as the other 10%, I still have my '70 Fender Jazz.

I know it's a great instrument - and I've seen bass players of all genre's playing them over the years. But you always have a few that will frown on you beacuse you're playing a $8,000 bass. But people like that can't be made happy no matter what you do....

I say my SR5 is great.

Congrats on the SR5! If you like it half as much as I like my SR4, you will be very happy. I've only had mine about a week too. I've played it quite a bit this week, but I will get to try it with my big rig tonight. I can't wait. Doesn't sound like you need any mods to yours. Pics?

Yeah - I'm going to post some pics as soon as I get my diggy camera back. I let a friend borrow it for a couple weeks while he's on a cruise. Should be soon...

If I knew it was you bidding sooner, I would not have bid-up the price - I'm in no hurry. I'd like to see your pics too, I purchased a burnt apple/rosewood SR5.

Buy the p/g from Bryan(ebay) - I got a white pearl from WD for my SR4 and the cut wasn't that great. The WD tort for my Sterling is better. Bryan's p/gs have rec'd great reviews.

Yes, I've had it for a few weeks now & I'm very pleased with it. It had one small ding in it (as described) but other than that it is like new. One dab of black nail polish & the ding is gone. I got it for $840 w/case

It's nice w/the black p/g but white pearl will really dress it up; it did wonders for my honeyburst SR4.

Thanks again
