If there are no swelling that is good. No mayer harm can be done.
Can you do this?

If yes, you be alright.
Fingers take time to heal. Excercise in a bowl of warm water and squeze a sponge, 3x20 times.
Do not force the movement. Do not start streching until you hand feels fine.

Straight from the doctor's mouth! I always found that staying patient was the worst thing. Put the guitar away for a while. It'll still be there in a couple of weeks. You'll have a little (slow building) practice to do to get back to where your chops are now but it'll be worth it.

Nice that it hasn't slowed your forum typing though. :D

I can do that yes but when I bend my finger in I when I get the sharp pain. I've been soaking it in lukewarm water with Epsom salt. Never thought of the sponge! Well, you know what I'll be doing all day! Thanks again!

Devin, given enough time and therapy it will come back!

Around 11 years ago I was doing an engine swap on an old car and I wailed the back of my left hand on the corner of a jack stand when my breaker bar slipped. The pain was intense and for the next 5-6 months while I could easily close my hand I couldn't open it back up without extreme effort and discomfort because of nerve damage. Basically I could make a fist but when I would go to open it my middle and ring fingers wouldn't cooperate and the easiest way for me to open my hand was to take my right hand and use it to open the fingers on my left. Because of this I had to take a hiatus from playing for almost a year and half until my hand healed enough for fretboard gymnastics.

If you bend the finger and you get the pain on the top side (not the palm side) of the finger located at a joint your joint capsule or your periosteum was damaged. Take time, ecsersise the hand without straining it. 3 time a day 3x20 sponge sqeezing. No strechting. Healing can take 2 week up to 6 months. In time only extremeflexing hurts, so you can do more things in time.

Devin just do not go near a guitar for a week, if it is still painful then just go to the Emergency room of your hospital and tell them to bill you. At least you can get it X-Rayed as you may of very well fractured your finger. So I really would not be bending or stretching it as you mat cause more damage since you do not know what is going on internally.

Youre awesome! Thank you! The sponge exercises really help a ton!

I'm only practicing my right hand technique. Boring but I'm amazed at what I'm noticing!

I'm looking into hand stretching excercises and the bed is awesome. I'll post a picture.
