Lookin' good. I can't wait for shot of the body (which i assume you will give the same treatment as the headstock?).

new knobs for Al

at yer request Sir spud

these are white pearl and chrome knobs made by Q-Parts and they are nice. They are weighty and come with a brass insert for use on split knobs like MM uses, take the insert out and I suppose they could be used on solid shaft pots. The knurling is nice and as you can see they match the pearloid guard nicely. Another nice bit about these knobs is they are lower profile.

really diggin the disassembly pics, it's great to see a piezo trem out and naked lie kat..... (it is a piezo team isn't it?)

The bowl was good, couldn't believe Warner through that last interception in the red zone. He'll be wishin' he could have that one back for the rest of his life.

Hi wolf - it has always been a bit of a quandary as to what to do with the body.
It does have some small dings which would make it difficult to get a 10/10 looking MD finish.

The respray job is very good and because it has these dings I'm not "treading on eggshells" when I take it out. The one thing that did perplex me was the white headstock - it wasn't showing the Musicman decal or JP sig, and at least it now shows.

I guess people could say it's kind of weird having a MD 'stock and a white body - but it's all part of it's history and I kinda like it.

I got a fully loaded JP cheaply by UK standards - and it just called out for some TLC.

Another thing was that after playing one at the 2008 knucklehead bash, I really got to like it and wanted to get a MD JP. As it turned out I got my hardtail EVH which I had been looking out for, for a while. So with my money nearly all gone I resigned myself to the fact that I would not get a MD JP.

- but I did get one - albeit a worn model.

Having played a Les Paul for 30 years and falling out of love with it since I discovered MM guitars - it is nice to have a humbucking guitar that I really like the feel of (and sorry Les Paul fans) in my opinion is a more versatile guitar than the Les Paul.

I love my AL's but am also loving my JP and glad that I got one.

Hey man those knobs do look very nice. If you feel that the brass inserts are weighing them down I think you could dispense with the inserts - cut a small piece of credit card and insert it in the split shaft. You could then screw onto the shaft without causing any problems I bleeb. Of course difficult to be 100% sure without seeing them. I did discuss this concept with our learned knucklehead Fingbeagles who agreed with this idea.

Oh yeah for sure that was one thing that Warner will remember - shame really! - but I guess he'll cry all the way to the bank!!

Having family in SL MO I have always eyeballed the Cardinals results even though they moved to Arizona. I love the game and used to go to the old Wembley stadium to see the London Monarchs play back in the days when there was a European league - man I can still remember the Barcelona Cheerleaders !!! ;)

And how do you compare the EVH to the JP ? Neck is a problem for me on the JP
I find the neck of the AL and the EVH similar. (.. just answer the question Spud and don't ramble!! )

Even though the profile of the JP and the EVH are worlds apart I feel that the shallow c shape profile of the JP suits me too, even with my small hands.
Put it this way, in no way is it like holding a baseball bat. ;)

Still, I can't play it at the moment - 'cos it's all in bits ha!!

Try one again - you may like it?

Spud the knobs are made out of "real" metal so they are heavy, not light like plastic; the brass insert weight is negligible.

ear's a link

Q-Parts Inc.

So, it's gonna be a white pet with an md head........ hummm... I could get used to that. :)

Thanks for the link to the knobs - they do look good - I'm tempted!

I can talk about weight ha!! - I had a trem knob and a pickup selector knob cast from 1 ounce of Gold, for my LEAL - They are still sat doing nothing, awaiting machining.

I know it sounds strange a MD stock and a white body - I can't defend it really except to say I like it at the mo.

Found my Guitar Nirvana with the Axis, Luke and Albert Lee though any EBMM is still very tempting (Morse, JP, Silo, Silo Spec and most of all 25th) I will stick to those 3 models for the moment :p

Like we say in France "Le mieux est l'enemie du bien" that you can translate by "Perfectionism can be counter productive"

Just a few more pics while it's still in bits - just waiting on a new piezo switch and I shall be ready to assemble.

Anyone got a Piezo 3 way switch that just so happens to be gathering dust somewhere?

I would love to get the MD back on the body but I think it would be extremely difficult to do.

I tried rubbing back a small patch (you can see it in the fourth picture) on the rear of the body and it seems that a gray undercoat has been used on the body before spraying the white top coat.
There was no undercoat on the headstock and that was really difficult to strip back.
As much as I would love a MD finish, I think that I have to realise that I have a good enough guitar for the dollars I paid for it. I know it's a sin that it was resprayed but hey - it was his choice. Who knows what I may do with it in the future?????

?

Spud - what did you try to rub it down with? Have you tried lacquer thinner and a cloth? Or polishing compund? I wonder if the present white topcoat is even compatible with the original paint. Probably not if they used a base coat or primer. You could try different solvents on the white and see what takes it off. You're not going to make it any worse, are ya? I know wet sanding would do it. You'd have to be ultra careful though.

How about sandblasting it........? Okay, not a good idea...

Or, maybe white it is, as you say sir......

any way you go you don't lose bro.... ;)

'ave ya heard of this place bro?

after seeing that color in person on my MD, I can't believe someone would have thought that white was a great idea. I mean to each his own, but the MD is just stunning.
