Here's my strap, I have these on all my EBMM, they remind me of my Dad's gun belts.

That's beautiful Chuck!I'm totally G.A.S.'ing for a fretless Sterling now! I'm pretty sure my Sterling is a two piece.
You can kind of see the line in the middle of the body and neck heel where they are joined together. But as always EB did a great job of matching up the grain....

Dunno Randy. I can kinda see it but it could be the grain is camouflaging it. How's it look down at the strap button?

:D I know a few of those guys.

I like fret lines for two reasons. In most cases I just prefer the "fret look" it gives the board as opposed to a blank plank. Second, I miss enough notes on fretted bass. If imma playin fretless, I WILL NEED lines.

My next fretless, if i ever get one, would have lines on the side of the board, and a blank plank front, ideally. (Too bad EBMM doesnt make em like this, its okay though, im not in dire need for another fretless at all).

Perfect? hardly. But if you have to continuously look at the lines to play a fretless, I'd be willing to wager that you aren't playing in tune either. When my intonation is bad, I'm the first to know about it unless I'm in a funky room where I can't hear myself. In that case, I'd be out of tune lines or no.

I don't mean to start another lines vs. no lines thread. I'm glad there's a choice. Heck, I even think some basses should have frets :)

Eh, just because you have lines doesn't mean you have to stare a hole in the board either. I try not to look all the time at least.

Hey, Psycho, I got some info about the origins of your bass; I'm the original owner.

I ordered a fretted Sterling from Bass Central, about 2 years ago. The bass I got had a below-average grain quality (for a natural finish) and the nut wasn't cut right. Bass Central arrange for me to ship the bass directly to EB and they exchanged the body for me. I then took advantage of the nice "customer service" and asked them if they could put a fretless neck in it (since the bass was new and they had to cut a new nut) - and they did.

So, yes, the bass came out beautifully.

I let it go because I gradually moved to 5-strings, but that is one fine fretless.

In retrospective, I think I was a little too an*l about the grain in the ash not being as nice - but at the same time, I think that a natural finish on a $1500 instrument should be pretty nice. (Wood grain beauty is really in the eye of the beholder.)

Regardless, EB really showed that they will go the extra mile to satisfy their customers.

Enjoy!
