I bought my second MusicMan guitar about 7months ago. A lefty luke blue Steve Lukather signature model guitar. To be honest, I hate it. But I dont want to. Iv got a Silo Spec. that I have had for 5 years that I absolutly love. I should take a picture of it when it comes back from getting work done on it. All Iv'e done to it is replace the shell pickguard with a black one, and installed 2 humbuckers in it. A dimarzio D-sonic in the bridge, and an Air Norton in the neck (yes, just like Petrucci's).

But I much prefer to play the silo then the Luke. I dont know why I cant get used to it. Iv gone through all the basic problems of having a new guitar. Iv changed strings, ****ed around with action, string heights, played it through multiple amps, all that good stuff, but I still cant get it. And I also think that having the single coil EMG's might be a problem. I thought I would love them, seeing as Iam a big Gilmour fan.

So my question is, has anyone installed a different brand of pickups in a Luke before?

thanks

Quite a few guys have swapped p'ups in their Luke. Takes some work, though. Not all p'ups fit in the routes.

So why do you hate it? Sound, feel, or something else?

You can easily change the tones with a pickup swap. But there's not much you can do about feel if you don't bond with the neck profile. Nothing wrong with that ... not everybody likes the same thing.

Yeah beej...my first thought was the V shaped neck on the Luke. As much as I love the Luke sound, the neck gets me every time.

Jake...maybe sell it and get another Silo? You just seem to be comfortable with the Silo.

I think a lot of us here try one music man guitar fall in love and then expect all the other guitars in the lineup to give us the same pleasure...but they almost never do.

Better to have a backup you love even if its the same model.
Maybe especially the same model.

To each his own, but I love the EMG's and everything about the Luke! If the output is too hot for you, you know you can work the volume knob a bit or just plug into a padded input.

even within the same model each guitar have a different feel.

Too bad you can't bond with the Luke but if the silo spec is better for you then swap the luke for another Silo or try an Albert MM90 for a completly diffrent taste.

I'm very happy with both my Silos and my ASS... yup... very happy.

I'm going for an AL, but I don't ever see myself with a Luke, JP, or Morse.
