I played a show last saturday night and just before the second set, the strap came off from the back end strap button and my Luke crashed on the stage floor

With the ugly crack in the finish near the cable plug, I guess now it's REALLY starting to become mine...

I usually put on Schaller Safety Loks on my guitars, but when I bought my Luke in May 2007, I decided to wait until the EB Safety locks finally do come out, for they were announced to be available soon...

Who would have guessed that it would take so long to see them appear in the stores?

Please don't get me wrong: I am NOT blaming anybody but myself for the fact that my beloved Luke hit the ground! I am just telling this story to say that maybe sometimes it would be better to hold back the announcement of a new product until it is foreseeable when it is going to be available in the stores.

And who knows: maybe sometime in the future all EBMMs will be equipped with EB Safety Locks right from the factory ???

Rock on!

P.S.: Will the EB Safety Locks be available next month in Europe as well?

Dude that sucks, l would of flipped out if that happened to me.

Maybe look at getting it repaired, and restore it back to new, or keep it like that as a reminder to buy strap locks for your new guitars.

I hope it all works out for the best.

Scott.

yep it sucks when that happens.... its the first thing I do when I get a new guitar... put straplocks on... its a small price to pay to protect your investment... on a related note... I've noticed my Luke is showing signs of wear and tear now... nothing serious or anything... just little scratches or bumps in the finish... I really don't mind as it's probably the guitar which gets the most work... it feels very comfortable now.... like a great pair of old jeans or sneakers... I love this guitar....:D

+1

That's what I usually do as well, actually I have some flying around in my toolbox at my home!

I was just waiting for the EB Locks to come out so I can put them on the Luke.
So far, the Schallers were the best locks to me, although I hate the noise they make and the fact that, no matter what I do, the strap buttons always come loose after some hours of playing... so I decided to give the EB Locks a chance.

Well, seems I should not have changed my habits... my bad!

Ouch. I also put the dunlop straplocks on mine as soon as the guitar arrives. Always held tight and secure but I also don't move a whole lot when performing live.

And it's only 10-20 bucks here in the states. That's money well spent, even if you decide to change brands later. Though guitars can certainly be knocked over when they're not on you too.

I once gouged out a chunk of paint near the neck pickup as I was trying to adjust the truss rod. I paid to have it repaired at the factory. Probably not as practical for someone oversees.

Strap locks are a sound investment. I keep forgetting to buy some, but unfortunately...this is a great reminder.

Sorry about your Luke.

I use planet waves straps that lock around any strap button, that way you don't have to modify any of your guitars. They cost about $20 USD. well worth it, I've seen to many beautiful guitars get damaged from falling, it's the worst feeling.

No problem, you're welcome ;)

In a way it's funny: for the last 20 years, I have installed safety locks on every single guitar I have owned during that time - and none of these instruments have taken any harm on stage. The only thing that happened was, that when I opened the back door of my car, a guitar fell out and hit the pavement. As a result, there was a big crack in the finish where you could see the bare wood (not a nice view on a trans purple Tom Anderson) and the fact that I don't use gig bags anymore

The Luke was the first guitar where I refrained from installing the Schallers, because I felt the EB safety locks would be a better system and worth the wait...

Will install some Schallers today and keep in mind not to change old habits that have proven to be useful!
Oh well...

I use Schallers. They fit my JP6 fine. I am awaiting the EB strap locks.

Cracks and other accidents suck. I hated the 1st one I put in my JP6. I am going to be so anal when I finally get my BFR JP7.

I got one of those straps for my bass. I think they're too bulky for a small body like the MMs. On my Silo I have the regular leather ended nylon EB strap, which fits nicely in the oversized buttons and have never failed me. Anyway I don't move my guitar around, and I always have my hands near so I always have a chance to grab it if the unthinkable happens. It happened me a couple of times when I had that strap on the bass and I always managed to get hold of it long before it hit the floor... I wear my instruments very high, almost like JP, and like him I never move them around.

Well, I am not a big stage jumper neither.
And luckily I had my hands near as well, otherwise I can only imagine what would have happened, if my Luke would have hit the floor completely!

Actually it happened BEFORE the second set we played and while I was putting my lead sheets on my music stand, the strap came off.
I was able to grab the neck, so that only the body hit the ground.

So it's not only a matter of jumping around on stage, as you may see.
I can only advise everyone to install some kind of safety lock to their instrument!

Maybe from now on EBMM's will be fitted with EB Strap Locks...I'm sure no-one would mind the small upcharge to have factory fitted locks on our beloved instruments.

BP?

These stories always make me cringe - I'm sorry you dropped your Luke man! I'd hate myself so much, I'd look into having a guitar like that refinished... In some weird colour not available on a Luke, obviously ;)

Cheers
