This started when my children bought me a bass for my 40th birthday. It was a Yamaha and I knew at once I wanted something with more kick. At first, I thought I'd just mess around with it on weekends. But that changed rapidy with the purchase of my first Stingray (candy apple red with white pickguard). I soon found myself coming home from work, picking up that beautiful instrument, and play with it for hours. My wife complained I was holding the "ray" more than I was holding her. And then it happened - she was stolen. I was heartbroken, felt violated, and searched the local pawn shops to see if she'd show up. No such luck.
I then tried a few others. P's and J's. Old and new. But dang, nothing could replace that "ray." Until, the buttercream came out. That was it! I had to have one!! And then the 30th. Wait a minute, what's happening here? Now I see Jack's 20th and I want one of those, too. What's really odd is I have absolutely no idea what to do with a 5 string and yet I crave it.
Then there seems to be this whole other faction of "Bongoloids" who are offering up temptations like I've never seen before (well, okay, I did grow up in the 60's and 70's so I've seen a few temptations), but this is different. Damn you Bongoloids.
