Hello All...I'm new to the forum primarily because I just bought a 30th Anniversary Stingray! I am back in the fold! I have owned a '93 SR5, Sterling Fretless, and a Bongo 4 HH over the years...now I'm back! This bass plays like a dream and has tone for days! I love the slight difference with the mahogany body...just a little more refined to my ears. I am using this bass as my #1 right now because nothing else can touch it.

I had to come over to the EB forum...I've been a member of Talkbass for a while...but I needed to consult with you guys due to my incredible find of a brand new 30th AV Stingray.

Jack...Sterling...all others...thanks for making me feel welcome! I do truly feel like part of a family. I must say that about 4 years ago I would not play a Stingray or any other Musicman bass. The reason...I saw too many people playing them and I didn't want to be like everyone else. Then...one day...I had a friend come over who had a 1993 SR5. At the time I had a Modulus Sweetspot 5 and it was one of the nicest sounding basses I have ever played. The band I was in was recording an album and I A/B'd the Modulus vs. the SR5. The SR5 blew my Modulus out of the water! I was stunned...I was so stunned that I traded my friend the Modulus for his SR5! That started my love affair with Musicman basses...since then I keep coming back to them! Thanks to EBMM for the incredible feel and tone!

Welcome & congrats. I'm dangerously close to pulling the trigger on one I've located that's in factory fresh condition - been in the case in a climate controlled vault since '06, in the inventory of an online dealer. That's all I'm saying. ;)

30th anniv SR4

Hey, congratulations! I was always unimpressed with Stingrays prior to the 30th anniversay... but now, I too have a love affair with my 30th anniversary SR4. I got it about 3 months ago, and it has completely taken over as my main bass. The mahogany wood tone, the look, as well the string-through body make this bass probably the best stingray ever. The mahogany body gives this bass a deep and midrangy growl, like a Gibson EB-3 -- however, the MM humbucker pickup and active electronics give the tone distinction and great focus.

I love this bass, and I know you will too. I'm happy for you, all the best.

In addition to the 30th anniv SR4 i play:
'67 Jazz, '77 Jazz, Modulus Q6, '87 P-bass, Hill Custom 4.

Thanks everyone for the comments. I knew you guys would appreciate the 30th AV more than anyone! I was really drawn to this bass when I did my little solo crap I do when I play alone. I love chords and very jazz/fusion esque solo runs and when I played my first minor chord on this bass...it just sang! The tone was exactly what was in my head. It was different from other Stingrays...more refined and smooth...I loved it! Plus...the look of the thing is pure class (to quote my Irish friends).

Now...I just have to make sure my wife and I don't do anything stupid and insure that we have enough money to keep paying our bills because I don't want to have to sell this...I would be heartbroken! (side story...we just moved up three states and incurred quite a bit of cost...so...we are tight right now)

Well, the 20th SR5 does have a Mahogany tone block ... but the 30th SR4 ... you know what I'm saying. ;)

Yep...I would love to give the 20th AV SR5 a go...but I am not much of a 5 string player. I have owned many 5 strings, including an SR5, but I am truly a 4 string player. I don't find much use for the low B. My last 5 string was a custom jazz with lane poor pups and it was great...but I strung it with a high C for more options with chording and I would it just got in my way just as much as a Low B. I'm too much of a traditionalist.
