Awesome and GREAT pics. JP is using the JPXI almost exclusively live now. He uses a BFR bari on one song and the whole rest of the set (barring acoustic) is different JPXI's and a JPXI7.
- We´ve already seen all those photos of guitars on a stand in the garden. Get rid of the stand, lay it on the grass/floor/whatever so there´s just the guitar and the natural surroundings.
- Get in close. Closeups often reveal details noone has thought of looking at before, and also makes the pictures come alive.
- Get rid of all those frontal shots. More angles add more depth and 3D effect for the spectator. Think angles all the time!
- Good lighting is your best and most important friend. Use your kitchen or any other well lit room in the house. Or go outside in the morning or evening. The middle of the day gives you too hard light and many odd shadows around deatails. If inside look for warmer light sources that give warmer and more yellowish light.
- Use a flash to remove shadows and bring out the finish of the guitar, but then: don´t forget to clean it!! Nobody wants to see your fingerprints If using a DSLR with an external flash, direct the flash to bounce the light off the ceiling or walls to get an even lighting effect and avoid that white reflection in the middle of the guitar body.
- When getting in close use larger lens apertures (lower f-number) to narrow down the depth of field for a more dramatic effect and to isolate the viewers attention to a detail. Don´t forget to focus on the right spot before recomposing the frame if necessary. If using a compact camera there is often a macro setting to aid the camera in close in focusing.
I could go on all day about this but those are some of the most important guidelines I can think of
Wow, those are amazing pics. Best pics of a JPXI I've ever seen, actually. They seem to be hard to photograph. Very cool. Btw, that action looks super low!
Been playing the JPXI a lot today. Just have to say how amazing that neck feels. Hate to sound like a complete fanboi, but that neck is the very best I have ever played on an electric. Even my Axis (which I love by the way) seems a little chunky and slow in comparison. And that says a lot as you probably know...
I´m also blown away by the sonic capabilities of this guitar. It´s so alive and responsive to play. The pinch harmonics squeel like I´ve never experienced on any of my other guitars. This monster is a lot more than I had hoped it to be.
And no I´m not paid to write this
