I'm hoping someone could help me...

I think my new Bongo has a factory issue that cannot be resolved by mere mortals such as myself or local tech (who coincidentally used to work at MM along with a cool dude I sold a piece of gear to...weird huh?). Anyway, they both separately and unknowingly confirmed my layman hunch that something wasn't right...I just could never explain it until they pointed it out.

Who can I talk to or PM about this? I'm positive this is an exception to the usual fine work by EBMM I witness on a daily basis. Though somewhat disappointed in the short term, it has not deterred my opinion that this is a fantastic sounding AND LOOKING bass.

Thanks in advance for the help...

Though I'm sure it's just the one I have, I think the frets weren't installed so well. Really buzzy no matter what I do. I even had it adjusted and the buzzes wont' go away. I'm sure anybody who knows what they are doing (unlike me because for the most part I don't) can tell right away. I've played all the other Bongos in the store and they don't buzz almost at all. And I'm sure those other Bongos have been manhandled by customers too. At first I thought mine was just suffering from all the sales floor test driving but my fears were confirmed.

Again, I'm bummed out, especially because I spent every cent I practically had, but every product ever made has one or two here and there that has an issue. I'm confident in the quality of EBMM's basses and their customer service to come through for me as it has in the past. I'm a bit down, but hopeful it can be resolved soon.

Oh, and I'm also kinda bummed out because I REALLY wanted so bad to play the Bongo at a huge gig I have coming up at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Thousands would have seen and heards me pump out the bass goodness with my Bongo! :( Jasmine Trias of "American Idol" fame is singing at that same show...she would have liked my Bongo... ;)

I think I'm feeling the Bongo withdrawal already... *shaking*

plus youll get a setup by Jon :) he'll make it play amazing

This is true. He can do amazing things with a screwdriver and an allen wrench. And, some of them are actually appropriate for a family forum.

Umm...I'm afraid to say because for all I know, it might have been one of those "OH THAT GUY, WE HATE THAT GUY! HOW DARE YOU BRING HIM UP! YOU ARE NOW BANNED FROM THIS FORUM FOR MENTIONING THEIR NAME!" type situations...

*scared*

Nope, I'm in Los Angeles, CA.

The tech I'm referring to is "Jerry". Super great nice guy who has fixed lots of stuff for me. He tried adjusting the truss rod and saddles but states the frets are just too way off to overcome the buzziness no matter what he did.

The other dude is named "Sam". He answered a classified ad for a guitar rig I had and no longer used. He commented on the frets too.

*I hate naming names so if any of you are reading this, apologies and I didn't devulge any private information, alright? :D *

And sending in my Bongo for repair scares me too. I'd drop if off if I could, but I think SLO is about a 3 hour drive. OOH WAIT, maybe a friend driving up north could drop it off! :D Is that possible? And how long would something like this take, if indeed there is a problem? I still don't even really know for sure what it is other than some insane buzzing. But even in its current state, the bass still rocks so I'm sure after my issues are fixed somehow or another, I will be totally and completely head over heels for this bass.

Regardless of outcome, thanks for your concern Jon. I appreciate it.

Oh yes..Jerry. He was the guy who went to SoCal GC's to set up our guitars. Ever played a guitar there? "nuff said. You can drop it off, but you need to get a return authorization number first. Call 1 866 823-2255 for that.

Hey T, I don't know Jerry so let's assume, just for argument's sake, that Jerry has no idea what he's doing.

If I were you, I would ask around and find a guy who does bass setups. In LA, there is bound to be one or two around you can trust. Sending a bass to SLO for what sounds like a setup issue is just too much trouble for yours truly, although there may be other people who don't feel that way.

Because I suspect, having owned a Bongo or two, ahem, that this is nothing more than an adjustment.

I could be wrong because I haven't played your bass, clearly, but from what I'm reading, I'd take it to a real bass shop with a real bass tech before thinking it had to go back to SLO.

Setups are not hard - but only if you know what you're doing.

Good luck.

My experience with said tech person has always been positive but getting a second opinion is good no matter what we are talking about so I agree with Bovinehost in getting it seen somewhere else might be warranted and a good idea. Too bad there aren't too many bass shops out here in L.A. (I'm surprised too). Yet upon visiting Sacramento and Colorado, I find a bass shop is adjacent to where I was staying. What the?! Thanks for the advice though.

On that note, any suggestions for a Los Angeles area (Pasadena, Glendale) bass tech or shop?

Jon, thanks also for you comments and I will call the 866 # once I get a second opinion so that I don't waste your or my time trying to explain something that has to be seen to or played to know if something is wrong or not, if anything is even wrong in the first place. And I'd hate to part with my Bongo for any length of time if I don't have to. Yes, I like it that much

If you are anywhere near Santa Monica, Truetone Music has a good tech there.(FWIW, I was born in Santa Monica)

Thanks Jon. Santa Monica, huh? It's really nice there. It's always a treat to get out near the ocean. I'm east of there, but it's not an impossible drive. I will make my way there one of these weekends and get it checked out before I call upon you guys directly. Hope they have reasonable prices because the Bongo bit a major chunk off me already :D

Thanks again...I appreciate it...
