My New Majesty Guitar is Dead - Anyone else have this issue?

I'm that guy. It sounds like you have the EXACT same issue I had. I had accidentally put a dead battery in with two fresh batteries thinking I had replaced the whole set. If you don't have a battery tester, replace ALL three batteries with fresh batteries and you should be golden. It was my rookie mistake. It is unfortunate that there is little to no warning that the guitar is about to die, though.

lol I was thinking about changing it to "Majtastic Voyage" since I love my Maj so much and I already snagged that Gmail address - but it's a lot of work to create a new internet personality. I figure I'll just accept that some people know I'm a little hot-headed at times but generally quite reasonable and helpful

Also, on the Majesty BFR (my next guitar, by the way) why not put the battery indicator on one of the fret markers? To be honest, I almost never see the back of Maj unless it's one of those times where I'm just holding it and caressing every angle and every curve of it, which has admittedly tapered off over the last few months... I dunno things are just different when you're married - you'll see! But for real; I snatch it from it's case, toss the strap on and head to shred town; although I reckon taking a second to glance at the back for a second isn't too much to ask. I'll just start including that in my regiment, along with washing my hands and lighting the candles of my Ball family shrine.

Update: I spoke with Ernie Ball Music Man support (one of the engineers). After describing the problem in detail it was decided the best course of action is to send them the guitar for analysis. I did purchase a battery tester and confirmed the batteries are good. I also ensured they were all inserted correctly. The problem remains. As a refresher - the guitar does not output sound unless I plug in a cable and immediately hold down and keep holding down the Piezo button. As soon as I release that button the guitar goes dead again.

I also confirmed that I pay shipping to them and they pay to ship the guitar back. So shipping under warranty is not 100% covered for those who may not be aware of how this works. Fortunately I saved the original shipping box so packing up the guitar/case is a little easier. Will update the thread once I have a definitive response as to what's going on with her.

If you were in Hawaii I'd let you borrow one of my EBMMs (fat chance to get my Majesty though lol) to hold you over until you get yours back. I hope it all goes quickly and smoothly for you.

Update: Guitar arrived back at Ernie Ball Thursday morning. Here's what they said:

"We just checked it out and... just as you described, its being weird. I've got the engineers digging further into it now. We'll keep you updated."

On the one hand, I'm glad this was not some lame user error on my part. On the other, looks like the issue is something of a head scratcher so I hope it's not too long before she's fixed up and back in my arms...

Dead Majesty Update: I heard back from Ernie Ball today and here's what they said: "We found the problem. Two wires were crisscrossed coming from the power supply which over time caused the problem. It should be fixed and ready to go today."

Hopefully this is a one-off problem that my guitar experienced and not something that made its way in to production specifications by mistake. So if anyone else should experience a dead Majesty issue, change out the batteries to eliminate this is a potential problem. Use a battery tester ($8 Radio Shack) and confirm batteries are good. Ernie Ball does not recommend rechargeable batteries for the Majesty.

If that does not work, contact Ernie Ball tech support ([email protected] or 866-823-2255) to see if they can help you troubleshoot it. If it turns out you have to send the guitar in, be prepared to pay shipping to them (and recommended insurance). They will pay to ship it back to you.

A wirte issue seems fixable on a permanent basis, so you should be able to rock it till death!
