Hey everyone - I'm a recent newbie here, and I have been lurking for a while. I've really enjoyed this place - it seems to be filled with really loyal, almost absurdly passionate guitar nuts, and it's so cool to find so many people that have such a love for what I'm finding are these great instruments, and the great company and people that make them.
I'm posting because I've managed to get not one, but two Morses in the last year.
And they come with stories, too - so here goes...
I've been a fan of Steve's since I first saw the Dregs open for Billy Cobham at the Roxy in the the late '70s. I'm not primarily a guitarist, but I've been getting more and more into it over the years (and have more guitars than I really should have, given that it's not my primary ax), and last year I started thinking seriously about trying to get a Morse guitar. The hard part was actually getting to try one before buying one. Lo and behold, right around the time of my birthday in the fall, I noticed a hard tail on Ebay that was being sold by a store in my area. They agreed to let me come by and try it (liked it immediately), and I ended up winning the auction. Here it is, in Sapphire Black, with the replacement pickguard that it came with (and it turns out Banjoplayer had posted a pic of this very guitar in a pic thread).
Fast-forward to about six weeks ago - this year, both my wife and I are turning 50, and also celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary. Out of the blue she says to me, "hey, this is a big year for us - do you need something special, like a cool guitar?

After I re-attached my jaw, I realized that a Y2D hard tail in Tobacco Burst with a nice quilt top would be pretty cool - I noticed a couple on Ebay, and started tracking them. The only thing was that these particular Y2D's didn't quite have the quilting that I was looking for. On the weekend that the auctions were ending, I almost pulled the trigger on one, but was nagged by the lack of a return policy and the fact that the tops weren't exactly what I wanted. I figured that if these didn't go, they'd be relisted (which they were), and so opted to contact EB Customer Service on the following Monday to see if they had a line on any either in place or coming down the line with the finish that I wanted. To my utter shock, AJ pointed me towards a store called Audio Classics in New York, and once I contacted them, they agreed to email a picture of the Y2D they had in stock. Not only was it about exactly what I was looking for, but it had been in the store for something like 18 months - it almost seemed like it had been hanging around, waiting for me to buy it! So I did...

So suddenly, an embarrassment of riches - love them both, though they do sound different (the Y2D seems to 'chime' more - a little more ring in the sound, even just acoustically).
There you have it - I hope you enjoy them here.

P.S. here's one more pic of the pair...
