So I finally succumbed to the GAS and decided to treat myself to a new Ball. I bought this beautiful Blue Pearl Silo Special with matching headstock from fellow forumite Keith (fingbeagles) who was super cool to deal with (Thanks again Keith!). It arrived yesterday, and I had to post pics and brag about it :) I've only spent about an hour playing it but I'm amazed at the tonal varieties I'm getting from the pickup selections. The single neck pickup just sings in an overdrive setting! This is the perfect complement to my JP6 (my main guitar since 2005). I can't wait to record some new stuff with the Silo special. I'm attaching a pic of my two EBMM guitars, and hopefully it comes through. If not, I'll try post them again!

That's a beauty! Congrats! I really really like the blue pearl with the abalone pickguard. How does that neck compare to the JP's (or other EB guitars for that matter)?

Thanks guys. The quality of EBMM guitars is just amazing. The silo special plays like butter, and the neck is quite fast. Amazing feel too!

MusicManJP6, in comparison to the JP6 neck, the silo special neck feels smaller (because of the lower radius I believe), and more rounder thus giving it a more traditional feel. While the JP6 neck is much faster and the Silo neck more traditional, they both emphasize controlled playing and will force you to be a better player in my humble opinion.

as do all the EBMM necks! they are all great. now go try an AL - a real mans neck!

The AL doesn't feel all that different from an SS neck. BUT, a Silo neck on the other hand, feels sleeker. For some reason, they're different.

I always thought the silo specs and the silos had the same neck specs... I think I'm wrong. The Silos have a slimmer profile compared to the Specials.

I like them Silos...:D

Hehe I already sense another MM purchase temptation coming up :) I have never played an AL and am real curious about how it feels and also the body shape. Is there a story behind the shape of the AL guitar? Is it shaped the way it is for technical reasons or aesthetic reasons?

Congrats on acquiring a truly great guitar. (not that the other models aren't)

I've become so attached to the Special, I don't think any other make or model would do it for me the way these little champs do. Forgetting all about the guitar when I'm playing, as though my mind, heart and fingers are in direct contact with sound, that's when I know it's the right guitar for me. The Special feels just that natural to me, that easy to become one with. I love it.

That guitar is gorgeous. Thanks for buying it. If fing posted it in the for sale thread a few more times, it was going to cause me a divorce. :p

Thanks again guys. I am totally expecting to fall behind on work due to my unhealthy obsession for playing my new ball :D Just kidding. I'm actually at work dreaming about playing it once I get back home! Amazing how addictive these guitars are.

Keith, I think I'll stay away from trying out new guitars for a while now else I'll want to buy another one :) How's your BFR AL and the new Sub?

candid_x, I hear you. I've felt that natural connection with my JP6, and can just close my eyes and go off. Surprisingly the silo spec also feels very natural to me in the limited time I've had to play it. Time will tell how much I can connect with the silo.

spychocyco, I'm even more glad I bought the guitar from fing now :D

I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts about the 5 pup settings. I've found positions 2 and 4 very suitable for arppegiation so far, and the single coil neck pup seems perfectly suited for those feely solos aka Gilmour. The humbucker is great for heavy rhythms and also those fat arppegios. I'm so far non-commital on the 3rd pup position since I haven't really played it too much.

Man, I hear you on that one but well, trying them is an obsession with me even if I do not keep them.

The BFR AL is the main reason i sold the Silo, wasnt getting any love due to my obsession with the BFR AL, try one and you will understand, got to get started on the SUB project, just not enough time right now.

Glad you are liking the Silo, makes me happy it went to a cool dude and good home:)
