Hello good people!

My name is Ronald and since last week I am a proud member of the Music Man players community :) A dream became true for me, a nice Music Man Silhouette Special moved in into my house (somewhere in Germany

I am really impressed by its sound and playability. Really a great one...

although one thing is a little bit disappointing to me: the weight. The guitar weights about 7,7 (3,49 kg)... so my little silo is unfortunately a really heavy one. On the website they are talking about 6,4 (with extra for tremolo), about 7). so, a little strange... fender strat rule "the lighter the better" is hopefully not true for MM guitars...

As I said, overall I am really happy with the guitar and I think we will have a nice musical future ;)

Likes:
- dynamic sound
- neck, playability
- great single coil sound
- fat humbucker sound
- noise reduction on neck pick up
- great craftmanship
- smooth tremolo, less detuning
- shape, fits really good, like an old pair of shoes :)

Dislikes:
- the neck is a little bit to thin (maybe only a change period, I am used to fatter strat necks)
- weight

Have an nice day!

Cheers
Ronald

First of all welcome to that place.

You probably know the rule around here :D : The guitar does not exist without picture :p

Now regarding the weight issue as it is written on the web site the weight may change from model to model depending on the wood density. Add to that that you have the trem option that also adds a bit of weight mainly because of the trem block. You'll get use to it :p

Now regarding the weight of Fender guitars, I was suprised after trying the David Gilmour relic  It was so light that it was like holding a feather. I reckon the wait was very similar to my EVH Hardtail

In any case, EBMM guitars are top notch and I'm sure you won't regret joining the family

Have to admit i'm not one for light guitars.
For me I like the weight to counteract against me when I play.
Nothing worse than taking the guitar with you when you bend lol...

I just find heavier guitars resonate and sound much better for me anyhow.

Is there a reason why the Silo Spec does not have the same neck profile as the Silo?

Hah...there you go....another Allemanucklehead onboard :) Welcome to the pond, brother...stick around.

Congrats for the purchase, but as Threeminutesboy said - around here, the guitar doesn't exist unless you post a picture :p

The weight....always an issue. But 3.5kgs ain't that heavy....okay, for a Silo Spec maybe yes. Might be some very strong plank that you're holding there

Congratulations and welcome aboard

3,5 kg is not heavy ... my Morse is heavier (4,1 kg).
In fact the weight is not important : it's the balance that needs to be perfect. A neck-heavy guitar is really hard to play when you stand. I have a hollow-body guitar that is very light (of course) but neck heavy : a real pain in the a** if you want to play live with it (in fact, I never play live with it : I trust only my EBMM ;))

Hey Ronni, welcome to the club and congratulations. Let's see some pics please.

Before the internet, nobody cared about all the little details like exact weight and the music was great (even better than now IMHO - probably because folks spent more time practicing than typing :) ). If it plays great and sounds great, than it is great. Being an EBMM, I'm sure it is! Have fun making music with it! Hope you stick around.

:)

wow, so many answers in short time, cool...

Thank you for the warm welcome. At the moment I am at work, but when I am at home, I will upload a few images of my new roomie ( is that the correct word? :) I hope my english is ok for you all here, please be not too hard with me)

In terms of weight it is not really a problem for me, cause as I said, I really like the guitar very much, I was just wondering... but as you said ghynes, sometimes internet and all the infos can be a little bit too much... my question was more a "sound" question. Cause normally the Fender Strats (Elder) are sounding better, the lighter they are, and so I was wondering... in the music store they only had one Silo Special, so it was not really possible for me to compare the sound... BUT I think there is not really a point here, cause I really like the Silo, the sound, the dynamic and the lovely neck. I am looking forward to play on it again in a few hours :)

See you, and good morning USA :)
Cheers Ronald

Hi Ronald. Congratulations on the new Silhouette Special. I am sure you will love playing it, it's such a great guitar.

BTW, your English is just fine. (Much better than my German... and my family is originally from there.)

Welcome aboard!

It's always nice to celebrate with fellow EBMM owners when they join the club. After many years of lurking i finally took the plunge last year. I couldnt have been any happier with my choices. The silo special will serve you very well and it's great to see you here!

You'll quickly learn that we love to see pics of the family additions... my guitar "didnt exist" for almost a week because i didn't post pics.

Congrats on your new Silo and dont buy into all the hype of tone as there are arguments on both sides, just depends on what camp you listen to. The bottom line is what your ears tell you. Like Dougie I prefer some weight to my guitars, also I have never weighed a guitar in my life, I do see that it is some internet fad though.

I have been to Mainz-Kastel and Wiesbaden, I know the sun shines there. Plenty of light. Would love to see the pics. Remember it doesn't exist without pics.

Silos are not shy in the first place...they love to be seen and heard. I think he's pulling our legs...the guitar exists in the figment of his imagination. I will probably post pics of my LUKE before this gentleman does...and the LUKE has not even been made yet hehehe :D.

Hello together!

Now it's the moment... finally... my Silhouette loses its way in front of my camera lense :) Sorry, it took a while, but there is a reason for that, but later more :p

I am really proud to introduce my very nice Music Man guitar.

I hope you like the images...
