Yesterday was "entertainment day here at Ye Olde Folkes Inne and I met the band (c&W tribute trio) afterwards to offer compliments and since I was sporting my coveted Stingray tee shirt, I introduced myself as a bass playerand then later, the bass player, who had a good groove on his P bass came to my table to ask what basses I played ... Proudly, I said "I play Music Man Stingray 5 basses, and he replied, "my other bass is a Rickenbacker, meanwhile, I had to come home to lick my wounds cuz it was him and not me, holding down his end of the stage with a beautiful female c0- BG vocalist, and I couldn't even help her pack out after the gig ... "woe is me I guess Eh?"and she sang nice too

For years my other bass was "a RIC". That changed a few years ago when I decided I only wanted to own EBMM Stingray's. Hense, no more RIC. Sold it to buy another SR5.

nothing wrong with a P-bass.
a P with flats (for that oldie goldie sound) and a Ray (for everything else) cover all musical grounds for me.

however, I never understood what people find in Ricks for that matter or in Jazz basses. I guess for each his own but I really dont see the point in a session of "mine is better than yours", especially when it's clear your SR eats the RIC for lunch
