I have a friend (who I am trying to get to sign up so he can show you ballophiles his guitars... we went on a guitar store viewing trip to another city and he lucked into a used Albert Lee in BCB. That gives him a SMY2D, an Axis, and now the AL.

Here's the great part about it all... he traded up his telecaster for it! :D To quote him warmly; "it plays better, sounds better, looks better, and has more of a Tele/Strat sound." After having the opportunity to play this guy for about fifteen minutes while he was working out the logistics of the trade, it has again stoked the flame for my want of a lefty AL. I was told to buy a G&L because it's not a Fender, but I will just hold my breath and wait patiently for some kind of freak incident where BP accidentally sets the machine on backwards mode, and out pops a wrong-handed AL. Hahaha.

Now if only I could get him to trade up his two-hundred dollar Kramer for a SUB or something, then both him and I would be full-on Ball supporters.

The Z Thing.

I have been saving up some bucks, as I want to buy a Prescription ES. I took out a Maz 18 on loaner, and it was all right; but it just didn't rock my knot. I have now tried the Stang-Ray, and although at loud volume it as incredible, there simply was no quiet to it. Same thing with the Delta 88. I liked the Route 66. That was a sweet tasty little amp. I just think a 1x12 ES combo will be perfect. The overdrive channel really intrigues me. I've heard some trials by Mr. Brad Paisley that you can find on the amp website. It sounded awesome. That's my plan.

Which do you have?

You're right, Rob.

As I said, I got to play it for about twenty minutes. It certainly is a tone machine. I was playing through a 4x10 Mesa Lone Star Special. It's not exactly the Dr. Z tone I love and adore, but it certainly got the EL84 tone that I was looking for. I dunno what it is ... I just love those tubes.

It ignited my want for a left handed version. I gave up on the JP6 because I wouldn't ever use the trem system, and really, I don't play stuff that's too heavy. Something about the AL pickups put it over the top in comparison to a Silhouette Special as well. The funky shape definitely works in the AL's favor as well.

It will be mine. Oh yes. One day it will be mine.

right now I got the ' Ghia and the Z-28 along with a 1x12 cab and a 2x10 cab - they mos' definitely rock my knot after years of hauling around Fender Twins and Supers, and various vintage Traynors.

my next ? I'm not sure, but there is always the new Galaxie which I am hoping to road test within the next couple of weeks:D

cheers always

Ooh, good call.

My personal jury is out on the new Galaxie. I mean, we all love that old Fender sound... and knowing Mike and the boys, they will follow through on a great sounding 6L6 sound. I just find the EL-84s are a little more... suitable to my playing...

Maybe once it comes out I can give it a try and see if I like it. I think a EL-84 based Prescription ES and a 6L6 based Galaxie side by side (and a Mini-Z for a overdrive boost...) would sound incredible.

I like where your head is at, sir! I feel a new age of EBMM and Dr. Z coming upon us. I need to call Brad Paisley and Joe Walsh and fill them in on it.

Hmm.

I think I actually like what Seymour Duncan does for single coils more than Dimarzio. They just have a more... vintage meets modern feel to them, if that makes any sense at all. The Dimarzios just don't give that sound that the Seymours do. I have to give credit to F****r for having that sound in their single coils as well.

Although, I do love Dimarzio humbuckers. Can't wait for my Rosewood ASS!!

yeah the AL is just great, it does have something extra funky about it, and the tones are different from the Silhouette Special for sure. Cant get enough of em! It feels good just to hold them.

Oh Rob you are damn right. When I first saw the AL (during the time when I was acquiring my Y2D), I didnt know who Albert is, but I am definitely attracted to the shape of the guitar - radical, funk, whatever you say. But I was determined to acquire one and here I am with 2 MMs. MM Albert Lee - Funk soul machine. :D
