Hello All,

I just recently joined this forum but have owned an Ernie Ball Axis since 2001 (Translucent Orange).

I had attended the San Jose GC event last Friday after seeing the poster for it a few days earlier.

The show was great, as I am sure you all know and the interactive nature of the show made it even more enjoyable.

After the event was over we had some free time to mingle about and eye up the line of EBMM's they had on display.

I didn't know much about the BFR's at that time so I asked Scott Ball to give me a bit of the background. The story was great and I enjoyed talking to him but didn't want to take up too much of his time. I was really intrigued and I grabbed one of the Luke's with the Rosewood Neck.

It felt really comfortable in my hands and was silky smooth to play. Scott comes back and asked me what I thought. "I think I need to plug it in" is what I answer.

So we head into the backroom to plug it into a Bogner they had setup (I have a Rivera Chubster that I love so wanted something close to it). Needless to say it played just as well plugged in.

Scott had been in the room with me and we chatted during the test drive. A few minutes later Sterling Ball came in and told me even more about the guitar........then not too long after that Steve Lukather came in and talked about the guitar.......then grabbed it from my hands and started playing........

Anyway, after all that how could I say no........but to be honest, the guitar pretty much had me at "hello" once I picked her up and my biggest fear was that I would walk out of there with it........

So I am now the proud owner of a Cabernet Red Luke with the Rosewood neck.....

Attached is a pic of me and Steve Lukather, even when posing for the pic he continued playing.....

Congrats Mike...great story and the man himself played it as well...doesn't get much better than that!

Cabernet Pearl is such a wicked beautiful color...one of my favorites....excellent choice!

Welcome to the forum!

Thanks for the welcome.

And I know what you mean with the "where else could that happen".....

I mean I got a kick out of speaking with Scott, Sterling and Steve but what was even more refreshing is how "regular guys" they are and that they are just as passionate or more about the instruments.

After all that, it really feels like I am "part of something" too........

I didn't go there with the intention of buying a guitar or meeting anyone. Just really wanted to hang out, see the show a bit and absorb some info. I got more than I bargained for that is for sure.

Sadly, not two days before the event I pulled the trigger on a Jackson PC1. I say sadly because now that I have this Luke, I am afraid she might be neglected..........

Hey Mike!

Great story and welcome to the forum.
You might as well sell the Jackson now.
You've got 2 EBMM so it's all over for you now.
The question is therefore, what are you buying next??? :D;)

I vote you sell/return the Jackson and get another EBMM. Anyone second that vote? :D

Sure.

I will sell it to the highest bidder........any takers here????? :D

Well, I would say that given the choice of any EBMM, that 25th Anniversery guitar is killer.

Not only for it's pedigree (it will likely reach collectible status) but more so for it's playability........

She is one pretty axe I tell ya..........

Hey 73H_NILs and Fogman,

Is there more Canadians on this board??? I am originally from Ottawa, Ontario and just moved out here to San Jose, CA.

I feel lucky sometimes that I moved here.

The event last Friday isn't the only chance I had to see some real guitar Heroes. I saw Satriani up at the Warfield and Buckethead at a small venue in Redwood City........more to come I am sure.....

Thanks for the kind words Mike....We were calling Luke "closer" after he sealed the deal!

Well...that was a pretty tough Full Court Press that was put on me to get me to that point....

But if I had to really give credit to what truly sealed the deal......it is that guitar you all built..........she really did have me at "hello"......

:D

Welcome, and congratulations for one of the coolest guitar acquisition stories imaginable :)

Tell me about it! What a story!

Welcome aboard Mike! It's really glad to know that you had such a great and personal way of obtaining that beautiful axe.

When I met BP at the Hollywood Clinic, he remembered my screen name and the axe I purchased.

Figure that! How many CEO's do you know would do that for their customers? Even more so for your case!

Not many at all, that's all I know!

Once again, welcome Mike!
