i just dont get how you can spend so much money on a bass and not spend 20 quid for a stand ??
even a cheap stand would have stopped it falling.if its a space issue use a mark bass velcro,i got one they are pretty cool but i still use stands at gigs.

I do have stands for my guitar and bass but this stage is so small and our equipments are so large and we have two girl singers up front so my space is very limited and I can only have one guitar stand while I am performing and I switch between bass and guitar between songs (we play mostly non stop dance music for 40 minutes straight) and I have only few seconds to make a switch so I have to put down bass against my amp and pick up guitar off the stand. I don't have a whipping boy to bring an axe for each song:mad: During a break time I have a space (where I stand) to put another guitar stand so both guitars are safe but during performance it is impossible to pick up a guitar off the stand and put a bass to that unoccupied stand and make all adjustment to guitar set up in less than five seconds that I have:eek:

no pics, no girls :D

Then I would recommend those MarkBass bass/guitar holders which you can attach to your bass rig. (I'm going to get me some of those as soon as I can find them in a store nearby)

Or the guy whose strap fell off because he didn't have straplocks, or guys who complain they trashed their new bass by carting it in a gig bag. I bet the same people don't have insurance either. As we say - penny wise, pound foolish. Or cent wise, dollar foolish, for the benefit of our North American colleagues.

Instead of making fast judgements, maybe trying to know the context would be a good beginning. Yes, the strap fell off because :

1/ When I had got the bass, it was very early August, and the shop was out of stock on straplocks,
2/ Distributors don't ship anything in August,
3/ The falling of the bass happened in August.

That was not a € 10 foolish thing, that was NO STRAPLOCKS IN STOCK. And yes, the shop was the only one around who would stay open in August.

Yes, any bass I have is in a hard case.
Yes, I have all insurance for my gear, and even more than what is necessary.
Yes, I have straplocks on my SR5.

Now please, I'm sure you're not a bad guy, but sometimes you may sound pretty much arragant. And if you really want to ask a question, please ask this one : why don't manufacturers mount straplocks as standard on $ 2K basses (or guitars) ? Not bashing anyone, just asking.

I see a market for a double necked bass / guitar combo.

I'm down for one!

No love for purchasing online if your local store is closed?

The very few online stores we had at this time (and that would stay open in August) wouldn't mention if the item was in stock or not. Besides that, I was away from home most of time, most often not coming back home between two gigs, and wouldn't have been able to get the parcel.

I know, that's weird, let's call it Murphy's law.

Now I'm even more careful than before, I always have two brand new sets of straplocks, even when I don't plan on buying a bass. Because the day I got the SUB5, I had one hour to kill before going to a gig and had stopped at the local store to check what was there. It ended up with a good deal for the SUB5, and trade in for my Jazz Bass.

This, indeed, is a very good question. I do have basses that already had them on when I bought them, but I don't know whether they were mounted by the shop.

Probably, the problem is that the manufacturere does not know what system the customer prefers? e.g. I have strap locks on all instruments (basses & guitars) and only have a single strap which I use on all of them, so the instruments must have all the same system installed.

This topic puts shivers down my spine. I am always paranoid about my basses on stage........ever since my super heavy SSD decided to slip of the guitar stand and smack my poor old '87 SR4 in the neck. It did all of this by itself.........and left a horrible gouge in the back of the neck. Had to get rid of the SR4 at that point. :(

I hate small stages because you can't use your case for storage.....and the chances of knocking a bass off a guitar stand is multiplied.

My guitarist actually keeps his Tylers in a gig bag and actually takes the whole lot wherever he goes......to the bar, the toilet.....you know what I mean. Do not trust anyone with your beloved axes!!!

I watch my stuff pretty carefully, but you might remember that - with straplocks installed - I flung my brand new 30th SR4 onto a hardwood floor at a local sports bar.

Hey, it happens.

And BTW - no damage, can't even find a scratch.
