#&^%$# My SR5 just got its first ding!

Unfortunately - these things happen in the real world, unless you never use your bass and hide it away wrapped in cotton wool ...

and who of us wants to do that?

Like cars - the first ding is the worst one ...
 
Yeah im pretty much over it now, the fact that is a sparkle finish and that its just a tiny crack in the clear makes it near impossible to see unless you sit the bass flat in you lap and it reflects just right in the light. Also got a higher quality screwdriver and got my trussrod unstuck! An eight of a turn tweak and she was playing like she should again!! Man I sure love this thing!

My Sterling acquired two small dings the first week I had it---after years of owning blemish-free basses. My experience with dings is that the initial response involves anxious "I could have avoided this" ruminating---but this later subsides to minor annoyance. I've found this to be true of other "mistakes" (e.g., when having parts of the house remodeled and discovering small unpleasant surprises). The emotional impact diminishes as anxiety converts to minor irritation (or humor).

Not sure if it's just me, but I like the older style soapbar pickup cover better than the newer "scalloped" end ones (ala Bongo style). Anyone else? That bass looks hot with the white pickup!

Thanks! Im in a minority but to me the SR5 just looks right with a white pickup and pickguard. Which is funny because (with the exception of guitars, i.e. strats etc.) I think white pickups look strange on everything else. I had a pearl blue one with the white PG/Pickup a couple of years ago that I wish I still had. Anyway when i got this one, it had a black pickguard, and I was gonna buy a mop pickguard to replace it, but I was afraid that with the sparkle finish that it would be overkill on flashyness. As far as the scalloped pickups, Im really unbiased on the old vs scalloped. Id like to see what a scalloped white one looks like!

How about that! I was under the impression that they weren't gonna do new style white pickup covers. For that matter I didnt know they were going to phase in the new style pickups on the single H models. I guess that means when you order a pickguard there will be an old style and a new style to accomidate the pickup shape.

Hmm...yeah I was thinking the same thing. I wonder if the old style pickup guard will be discontinued though (sort of the bridges mutes and other stuff). I guess someone will always provide replacement parts (ebay and other vendors).
