I wrote a post a while back about having difficulties with my Stingray making a clanking sound and being very thin and tinny in my church's sound system. I now believe the problem was something to do with my SR and the amp just not working well together. With passive basses (like a Gibson SG)the Peavey amp sounded fine (never great), but with my SR it was pretty bad.

I bought a new Ampeg amp, and the problem is solved. They both sound so great! I even like the way it sounds through the house system. Nice and punchy and no clanking noises like before. It seems like this is just a combo made perfectly for each other. On a side note, I also tried my SR on a Carvin, and had no problems with that amp either (though it wasn't quite as good as the Ampeg sound wise).

I'm not saying that a Peavey amp and Stingray combo is bad, but for me it was, and I'd certainly not go back to it.

What other EBMM bass and amp combos have you all found good or bad? I'm thinking of getting a Bongo soon, and I'm also interested in the Mark Bass sound (though I'm really fond of my Ampeg sound right now.)

Later,

-Jawsh.

BTW- Thanks to all who commented on my previous post.

I used to play my SUB5 through a Hartke HA4000, but upgraded to an SVT-4Pro. Amazing! Simply amazing!

My SR and Sterling sound great through all my amps (GK, Mesa, Genz, etc.) but it's the cab that makes it for me. I prefer the tweeter off or gone and a cab with enough internal volume to handle some lows.
