It has been SO frustrating to watch people not give the AL credit. It has the same balance poins as a a strat but is way more comfortable...the guitar is a tele/strat blend that is just fantastic...

Honestly, I just love it for the looks! :D
All EBMMs are easy to play, but I cannot believe how the Al was when I played it. Nothing has ever been so comfortable. It was like I wasn't even playing it.
....and no, I'm not confusing it with an Air Guitar.

BP... I'm probably totally wrong here.... but the reason I never considered an AL is because of the country music imagery that the AL had in my mind... (I'm not a country music fan)... but partly because of becoming a member here I can now appreciate what the guitar is about.... it's very obviously not just a great country guitar but a great all rounder..... I really want to get one.... with MM90's....:D

gerry,

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people have that opinion.
I personally am no chicken picker, though I can appreciate the style.

I took off early from work today (well I am 50+ hours up!!) and visited my guitar building buddy's workshop. This guy makes great guitars and he presented me with a Tele type guitar he had built and asked me to play the Albert chop I had been working on (T bird to Vegas).

His Tele was a disappointment to me - the guitar felt nice & looked great. The neck wasn't to my liking but it had been custom made to the customers specifications after all!

I got back home and plugged my BCB AL into my Mesa and played the same chops.
My AL SSS pickups just chimed and you could hear all the notes ringing out in the opening phrases (you gotta listen to AL playing T Bird to know what I mean). It struck home to me how good the SSS pickups are on the AL - how nice they are voiced.

I then played a couple of Ainsley Lister /Robert Cray bluesy style licks with the tone rolled back slightly and turning the wick (gain) up a tad on the Mesa. Boy what a great blues tone!!

So guys - thinking of getting an AL guitar?
Will it suit you ? - maybe not a shredders guitar (but I bet it could do it too!)

Bleeb me, "The AL Guitar is DA BOMB!!" :D

I was watching some Albert Lee videos on Youtube today and the guy's amazing. I'd eventually like to get an AL, do they come with regular humbuckers at all?

Spud, youre a legend mate! I love these AL threads, its just a wonderful guitar, i'm so happy to be playing them, as i'm sure all AL owners out there are. Someday they will rule.

Go the AL.

Spud,Rob and the quality/look are what made me buy a 05' LE ButterCream Albert that is boxed up in a UPS truck somewhere in America... Can you feel my Giddiness? I can't sleep at night. pics and a full report as soon as it lands in my hands. Then I will be officially in ALOC and that is a very special club.

you know what sparked my interest in AL's... this photograph....
I think the buckers would sound great in an AL - but you would lose the chime/cluck/quack and in my BCB some of the dark undertones I get from the 3 pick ups.

One day I'll get my mate (Glyn Knight) who plays in a Hendrix tribute band to put it through it's paces and I'm sure it'll send all the strat lovers over the edge !! Now he is one amazing player - just like the guitarist from the Hamsters (Slim) only better

Great stuff Gerry- I hope you do get one (or more!) - the SSS are fantastic pickups - hence this thread.

Don't forget, the MM90's are single coil too.

Man, i wish i took pictures of the Al's that i had, foolishly i didn't.

Thanks for the compliment.

I always go back to the Black Cherry burst with the SSS - really love the feel of it and the pickups do it all for me - I play mostly blues and have been learning country pickin' stuff like country boy and T bird to vegas - but those SSS through the Mesa - with Gain at 12 o clock on the clean channel sounds real good.

At the mo I have the MM90 AL tuned down a half step as I'm learning some Ainsley Lister stuff - and post #4000 to boot!
