My volume knob sounds hollow and insecure and

my tone knob sounds thick and really feels thick and secure on my Benji Madden, they work fine but if I tap on them they sound different I know its wierd but just thought I'd ask

Maybe the wiring is loose inside the guitar?

try swopping the knobs and see if that make a difference (yeah I know one says tone and the other volume)

maybe wind a bit of teflon tape (as used by plummers) around the spline - not too much!- and see what the result is?
