I had to do it - got another Sabre Classic! I "seen" (I know, bad grammar) the honey burst Sabre at NAMM and had to have it. Dang - EB/MM does the best honey burst in the business! I'm one of the 37 Sabre fans out there and was very glad to see it make a comeback last year - and I bought a natural Sabre last summer - had a heck of a time deciding between silver, trans white or natural - and even back then, I was bummed out that it wasn't offered in honey burst, because that would have been my first choice. This thing looks killer! All I did to it is my usual mod when I get a new bass - put a set of Dunlop strap buttons on there - a 10 minute deal - and took the film off the pick guard - it's a keeper. Check it:

A nice pair of .....Sabres:

That looks amazing. My first ever EBMM, a 92 Stingray 4, was in that colour - even though they called it Sunburst back then.
Still have it.

Timeless finish and a great combo with the black guard!

I agree, MM does the best honeyburst. Stunning on your sabre! Wow!

There is surely something in Sabre's appearance) But I do not really like covered pu's there. But how about the sound? What exactly distinguishes it fro the SR?

It has a much wider tonal palette compared with the Stingray. It can do rear humbucker (the Stingray sound is there, perhaps not quite as fierce), humbucker plus coil 3 (single coil), all four coils (serious wall of tonal sound!), noise cancelled single coil 3 (throw your Precision in the trash!), or full 16-pole front humbucker for some seriously deep lows. Then start to add in the string mutes, which add another dimension entirely. Playability wise, it's a very comfortable bass to play. Imagine that the horns end of the body is identical to the Stingray, and the lower belly half is just a little narrower than a Ray, balancing out the bass a little more. Also, compared to the Stingray Classic, the Sabre has the contoured body, as it always did.

I'm loving the OP's new honey burst model. It's a stunner. Your natural is the same as mine, except for mine has the tort guard. Awesome basses. Congrats on the new purchase!

Yes - what HE said! Correct on all points. I've always liked the slightly smaller and contoured body - and back when the Sabre came out, the Stingray was NOT contoured. I got my first Sabre back in the mid 80s - had a natural one like the Classic I got last year. Many usable tones with the 5 way switch. I prefer this setup to the original mini toggles.

Hi Brad - congratulations on your new bass - it looks fabulous. Is that a newly available colour?

Thanks! Yep - honey burst is new for this year - along with trans blue and blue burst - no more silver or Diego Blue - I almost got a silver one on ebay for a really good price, but didn't bid and he didn't relist - dang!

Anyone know whether the Sabre Classic can be ordered with the SLO neck option (1.5" nut width)?

Congrats to that fine Sabre!

I never thought of becomming a fan of that finish, but I made a deal with a bassman from my german Bassmens-community this year in March. I gave him a Fender Mustang that was useless to me. BTW., I found that one in an abandonned house.

He gave me a beautifull 1995 SR 4 in Honeyburst with all-maple - neck and 3-Bd-EQ. No money was involved. I am so happy with that deal.

This bass fits like a glove to the rest of my Musicman-Stingray - Family: Sr 5 in natural finish with Rosewood fingerboard, Sr 5 Classic in Tobaccoburst and all-maple-neck, last not least the beautifull Honeyburst Sr 4.

Thanks! You have a nice little collection there too. I love the part about finding a Mustang in an abandoned house! When does THAT ever happen. I know this isn't the place to discuss a Mustang, but what a cool find - I'm always attracted to abandoned building and homes myself, and if I know I won't get busted, I'll usually take a peek inside - but never found a bass in any structure I've looked in.
