I've been absent for a while as I've been seeing another forum:) my new mistress I suppose. I have just received my AXE FX ULTRA!!! not a traditional amp per se but close enough for me. Very stoked to use my EBMM guitars with it for some recordings! I know a few on this forum use the AXE as well--Cheers everyone!

I have an Ultra myself. Although I do not view it as a replacement for my Mark V, it is an awesome piece of gear for sure! I have used it as a stand-alone rig, recording rig, as well as an FX only unit for my Mesa. Works tremendous for all of the above. I see you are using a tube power amp, have you compared it to solid-state? If so, which do you prefer? Mine is solid state and it sounds awesome with the power amp simulation on.

funny, I was really considering a mark V but for the time being i felt the AXE FX was more practical for me to use. Once I have replenished some of my funds, i'll be looking for a tube head to integrate at some point. I have just started using my Ultra and am really liking the sounds from my mesa 2:90. I used it before with my digitech gsp1101, but the Axe already sounds way better! I know quite a few guys on the fractal forum have used the ART SLA 2 as a cheap/light solution and have had decent results with it but was told by someone to definitely keep the mesa 2:90 as opposed to going to the ART. I still may try it out eventually, but need to get comfortable with the ultra first so I can have a good frame of reference with my mesa 2:90, and then get a SS (ART SLA perhaps) and a/b them to see if I can get what i need from the SS. What are you using with yours? you mentioned solidstate...which one?

I have an Ultra. Use it with an active monitor.

Since then I've sold my CAE 3+SE, VHT 2/50/2, CAA 2x12. NO regrets at all. Gonna get a 1x12 combo as a backup, just in case (no issues with the AXE , but just to be sure). No more back breaking lugging around gear!
