As I grow increasingly poor due to my GAS unfortunately I am contemplating having to sell one of my boys. It's amazing how close they sound. I recorded some of my crappy playing to see if there was one that stood out for the chopping block. Shockingly they all sound pretty similar despite their variances. Can you tell which is which? LOL. All settings were the same, I simply unplugged one guitar and plugged in the next. Some pickups are hotter than others. Some have 9/42 strings, some have 10/46, some have easier artificial harmonics. I'm sure with a compressor, eq and gain they could be completely evened out but I'm actually shocked at how close they sounded because unplugged they all sound completely different.

I'll name number 3 Steve.

In all seriousness - the Axis has a tone control? Did you put that in?

I did. I got the idea from Richie Castellano after he had a custom one built with a tone knob. The cutout is already there, you just have to drill through. Mine also has a push/pull to split the coils and it does a surprisingly good split.

I want to do this with mine - is the push/pull on the tone, or volume? I don't want to install the tone control, but I'd love to switch the volume pot to a push/pull or push/push for splitting the coils, preferably the outside coils. What pot did you use?

I did the push/pull off of the volume. Standard Bourns A500K Push-Pull Split Shaft Pot. It was a no brainer to me since it gives you 3 more settings, all very usable. I found it bright at times so I added the tone knob. Now it rivals my super sports for versatility.

for what it's worth, this gives you an idea. although I'm not happy with the way I just played this, at least I found a sound for Sausalito summer nights. lol.
I started with the split neck, then middle then bridge.

since I'm a mental case, I had to go back and get one take where the EQ was a little closer to the original track. I challenge anyone to try and live in my head. OCD is very trying at times. I still screw up the pick slide every time.
