Is only the top of the body wich is made of ash (or alder) instead of all the body?

the body is all ash. It is either one piece (very rare due to weight considerations) or two or three pieces. When I talk about pieces I am not talking about from the front to the back, but one piece is the upper horn or third of the body one is the middle where the bridge and pickup are and the third is the lower horn.

Are you dreaming of a new bass already? It seems to be contageous here.

I still am hurt over you voting for Jack over a youthful me!

ok it's what I thought... on an italian forum someone says that is only the top made of ash, and before answering I want to be sure.

Is that why? My 89 is 3 piece but I'd swear it's from the same piece of wood...as if it was cut 3 times for the heck of it!!! It's basically book-matched.

I am one lucky chap. From close examination this is a one-piece body which probably explains the weight.

I must check my Root Beer '80 SR4. That is also one heavy bass.

It's easy really. Pick up the instrument and look at the body side on...on a level plane...where the rear strap button is. If it's a 2 or 3 piece, you'll see the grains run into (oppose) each other.
