Scott, I would think as long as they're using basswood, we won't see any natural or trans colors. They are basswood, right?

They are indeed basswood, and I really doubt if you will see them in trans or natural colors.

We made a Bongo in every type of wood available. Take my word for it, the Bongo looks best opaque. Basswood smoked them all, so that is what we chose. If we came out with something like ash we would consider it a step backwards.....

A step backwards and you better hope there's a chair there because I bet you'd want to sit down to play that bass.

Ash Bongo? Hoo-boy, I bet that was a heavy sucker.

Thats what I figured. So I guess I will have to be happy with Stingray's, Stingray 5's, Sterling's and Sabre's. I guess that is enough to hold me over in nekid EB MM Basses :)

PS

What did you do with the Ash one? ;) :D

Actually I believe it is sitting on a rack next to Mr. Smith, whom if I am informed correctly will be drinking tequila this evening!

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMTequila :D And, yes, that Bongo is within eye sight.
And if Mr. Dargin shows up, a shot of fine tequila will be waiting for him.

:D :D :D :D

Sooooooooo......any chance of us getting a picture of the ash Bongo? You know--for the historical record, and all. If you can show us a picture of a prototype 4 string with 10 pole pieces, you can show us a prototype Bongo, too.

Heck, Scott's got an unavailable Bongo as his avatar.

C'mon........

That is how the Army Bands used to get old instruments off of our property books. I have heard stories of the band out at Ft. Ord CA having to demolish every instrument that was not transfered when they shut that band down. I was told they had to destroy everything with sledge hammers in front of the PBO's so that they could be sure noone took any of the old instruments.

is ash really that much heavier than basswood? i may be a young wiper snapper, but i dont think that a few pounds around the shoulder would make that much difference.

I hear ya...I am all of 35 w/a bad back and I can still do a 4 hour gig with a 10lb plus bass around my neck. But! I know that it can really be hard on folks with back, shoulder or neck problems. Also, not all ash is heavy....but it is all pretty to me :p

Considering the body shape of the Bongo, I don't think that they would look "quite right" with a natural or trans colored finish. A Bongo has that futuristic look, and natural or trans colors are...vintage.
