So i got this one today! Ive been searching for a working bass for a while now, one to use at most gigs to save up my other ebmm basses a bit. After a bit disapointing experiece with a ray 34ca i decided i would go for an older sr4 that was priced right and this is just what i was looking for, nothing fancy and some scratches here and there, but great musicman tone and playability! The previous owner strung her up with flatwounds and i plan to keep these on there for a while. Now i just neet to sell the sbmm, im running out of wall space. :)
 
Very nice! Live a little and put a set of cobalts on it.
 
A question for the experts here, the bass had black pickguard screws on it. Ive replaced them with chrome ones because i think it looks nicer. But could the black ones have been original?
 
on my basses the screws below where i hold my hand when i slap (the bass around a bit with a beavertail) gets discolored.
all my basses have a black screw at that point.

it might just be corrotion :)

On my early 1996 they are also black. (sunburst, matt white pickguard, trans-bridge, unlaquered neck).
My 1993 had also black screws original (matt black pickguard)...
I like chrom screws better too.

It is no corosion. The screw thread is collored too and on all screws so i guess this was original. Thx for the info!
 
The Black pick guard screws are original and were used during that period. I don't know if they were used for all pg colours but my '94 had them (Trans White with black pg).
 
Can anny of you recognize this wood type? Serial number data didnt include wood type so could be ash alder or poplar. I think ash or poplar but not sure...

My '93 has a B-W-B 3-layer PG
with black screws. But I am not
its first owner.
