Been a long time since I've gotten a "new" bass. Got this one used from Guitar Center. I've been wanting to try out a Big Al 4H for a long time, just didn't have the opportunity until now.

Just did a quick set-up (relief / intonation) before practice last night. It came with rounds on it, which I don't normally play, but I wanted to pop its cherry. I'm a point and shoot kind of guy, so I don't do a lot with the knobs and buttons, but everything flat, active, parallel through my MarkBass 102P combo sounded killer. I'm sure it will sound even better once I throw some Group III Flats on it and run it through my GK 800RB and Ampeg 610. We're playing a 4th of July thing in Show Low, AZ, and I plan on bringing this along.

Cool. I'd love to own a big al. Just wouldnt know what to choose. H or sss. Both versions seem amazing.

Very nice! I love the Big Al, both varieties. Just sold my 4H and bought a 4SSS, mostly because I have a couple of other EBMM single H basses and wanted the variety of the SSS. Can't go wrong either way. The preamp is amazing. I had Group III flats on my H but the SSS came with cobalts. I generally prefer flats but am digging the cobalts.

Big Als have become VERY under rated. There was a SSS on talkbass that was stupid cheap due to no buyers. Single coil passive in the center spot is just money. People get scared of all the buttons but just use the tone & volume knob, done.
