I just got my Liquid Gold 50th Anniversary Stingray! When I opened the case my jaw dropped. Wow! I love the look of the bass and the way it sounds and plays. This one has a poplar body and ebony fingerboard.

I have two other Stingrays with maple fingerboards and ash bodies. I think this will complement them well.

Wow Markcarl that looks absolutely stunning, I thought they weren't shipping for 3-4 months?
Congrats on the bass.
What number out of 50 is your bass? - if you feel comfortable disclosing it on the forum.
On another note for Gavs great musicman website hey Gav do want serial numbers & hand written number for these limited editions?
I was one of the lucky one to get an order for one before they all sold.

Thanks @scottbass71

I’m 61. I remember in the 80s I played with a bass player who borrowed a Gibson Grabber bass from our high school music program. It was great but he wanted his own bass. He eventually got a Music Man Stingray. That bass made a big impression. He loved it. I remember how impressed I was with the way it looked, sounded, and played. I was jealous. I wanted one too!

I never thought I’d be lucky enough to eventually get my own Stingray. Now I have three of them with a short scale version on the way.

When I saw the 50th anniversary model announcement, I decided I would get one. It’s special to me. I know I’m not getting any younger. 50 years is a long time! Where did all the time go? I don’t want to take the time I have left for granted. I want to make the most of it. I went back-and-forth between the liquid gold and the molten gold. I think they both look fantastic. I’d be happy with either one. Mine is marked as number three out of 50. I ordered mine from the vault website right when they appeared.

I stayed up late last night playing the new bass. I think it has a slightly deeper bass response than my other Stingrays - maybe because of the poplar body versus ash? I think they all sound great. I like the feel of the Ebony fingerboard. This bass inspires me to pick it up and play.

Hey Markcarl,
Thanks for the insight & story, I guess they allocated the numbers 1st come 1st serve, I ordered mine when there were only 5 left.
You must have been one of the early orders to get No. 3.

Hi @scottbass71. Yes, it sounds like it. Congrats on getting one too. Have you received it yet? I’ll be interested to hear how you like yours. I’m loving the bass.

What made you choose the Liquid Gold over the Molten Gold?
