Well folks, the Bongo mind ray machine crossed the Irish Sea from DTG and hit me as well - A Douglas, Jack, Sterling Ball and all the other Bongo lovers were absolutely right, these are very special.

I now have a Bongo 5HHp courtesy of Mr Duarte, who is off to uni. And what a bass this beauty is - lava pearl, orange swirl scratchplate, and the sound..............I've started off with settings recommended by A Douglas, who has one of these - the sound is massive if you want it to be, and sweet if you want it to be. Basically versatile with a capital V.

The piezo adds icing on the cake and dialled in a little seems to add more warmth to the sound - don't shoot me - that's how it seems to me :)

I've tried the bass once in a performance setting and it sat really well in the mix - got nothing but compliments on sound and looks.

A couple of not so good pics attached - one showing it side by side with it's new Classic mate.

Congrats man, I sense your other ebmm's will see less playing time ;)

Dunno bout that, I played that Classic and it is incredible! Enjoy that Bongo, it's a bit special I think.

I miss that bass so much already. I am currently bassless altogether! ...At least it meant I could afford this laptop...dammit!

As the original owner of that bass I wish you many happy moments with it. I just never needed the fifth string. Glad its still with the knuckleheads.

And not to bring down the mood, but Zak I recently added to my list of wishes that you should get your redrise back if and when my cancer gets the best of me.

Thanks guys - I will let you know how I get on with the bass at a gig. I tried it out playing Chamelion (Herbie Hancock) and going down to the B string for the 4th was unbelievable - that 5th string is a killer - as are the low mid control, bass EQ..................

However, there is no chance of the other basses not getting played - the SR4 fretless is the rockabilly band bass and the Classic is just so good for anything.

Thank you Erin - Zak mentioned this bass was originally yours. I hope things are going well for you. The condition of the bass is still as new (no dings, no marks at all) and I intend to keep it that way.

It's too beautiful to even think about denting! I don't understand all these guys with dings in their Bongo headstocks...how does that even happen?

Erin, you just concentrate on getting better dude. Keep us all informed.

If I understand well, that was previous Duarte's Bongo?

Anyway, this Lava Pearl is fantastic color and HHp is killer!

We play them.

None of the 3 Bongos I've had have had the headstock ding ...maybe I'm just so aware of that! My Stingrays were beaten to hell on the headstock.

Right, as soon as I get some money I am going to get another MM. I found a music shop in Birmingham (where I ust moved and don't know where anything is or who anyone is) and the have a BFR redwood, Bongo Sterling Silver H and 30th StingRay. I suddenly felt right at home...
