It’s a great day when something like this arrives. I’ve happily welcomed a new addition to my collection today - a Reflex HH with the Game Changer.
First of all, it’s a great dual humbucking Reflex. All of you that have a Reflex or 25th know what I’m talking about here. The bass itself, unplugged, sounds great. Nice resonant tones, great weight (9.0 lbs), cool new tuners, great feel all around. With the black finish, white trim and rosewood board, it’s a very handsome bass. Nuff about that stuff… Then I plugged it in.
Again, any Reflex or 25th owners can attest to the great sound they produce. But as I’ve said in another post, I like tweaking things. Oh. My. God. Where do I start? I could (and probably will) spend days running through the stock tones and configurations that come preloaded on the GC. The MM team has done a brilliant job loading some of the best pickup configs so they are right at your fingertips (literally). The different configs can be subtle sonic changes or downright totally different from one another. Running through my Markbass 1x12 + 1x15 rig, I got such a charge out of the tonal variations that I could hardly put the thing down to type this posting. What really blew my mind was dialing in a pickup config, then tweaking the 4 band EQ in active or the passive tone knob on that pickup setting. Wow. If you’ve seen the videos of the GC, you know that saving any of this stuff is so frickin simple on the bass itself.
Then I connected it to the application. Holy $%^&!! Adding the visual element to the changes was like going from a neighborhood playground to Disneyworld. Click, rewire, save, bang – it’s that easy. And loading other player’s tones is just downright fun. It didn’t make me sound (or play) like Tony Levin or Craig Young. That’s more in the fingers as most of us know. It did make me sound like Kevin (that’s me) with a few thousand new basses. And all done without hacking into the coils like I’ve done on some Frankenbasses I’ve built in the past.
Enough typing, I’m going back to playing. Here are some pics.
Thank you BP and team. This is truely a Game Changer. There's nothing like this out there that isn't custom made and with far more limitations. Not only did you make it, you made it affordable too. Music Man frickin rocks!!!
