I have a new (to me) 2001 StingRay 4H in Autumn Red Burst with a matching headstock. I picked it up on CL a couple of weeks ago. It was DOA, so I got it dirt cheap. But it only took a few tweaks of the battery case tabs and a fresh set of Slinkys to bring it back to life. It originally had a black PG but that hid most of the beautiful Autumn Red Burst sparkle paint job, so I dropped a clear one on to let it shine. It's got some battle scars on the headstock and a couple of chips in the body but that doesn't bother me and they're not visible when it's played. I'm planning to use it for my upcoming St Paddy's Day marathon (five 4-hour gigs in 3 days).

It's been a few years since I have really dug into a Ray4 - it's got that tone I cut my teeth on and I love it.

Here's a pic with the black PG

Here's the clear PG. Much nicer in my opinion.

I'm with you! That clear pg DEFINITELY helps the finish come through in a major way.
Battle scars should never be hidden in my opinion. I think perhaps the MM finishes are so stellar that we feel we should baby the instrument but generally I associate dings, scratches and chips as more of a sign of journey together. I like the thought of the player and an instrument having gone through this journey and still going strong.

Sweet Bass!

Love it! The clear pg really does bring out the incredible finish. How about a picture of the backside and the peghead.

Here you go. I figured I was going to have to arm wrestle you for this one since it was local to both of us.

It looks like the guys in SLO were having a nice day when they assembled the neck.

I'd have to say that Autumn Redburst if my favorite EBMM color of all time. A PDN in that color would be difficult to resist.
