Score! I traded my Sterling 4H for a new Sterling 5H. I haven't gigged it yet, but I will next month - I'm subbing out of the next couple of gigs - taking a break from gigging almost every weekend. Long story as short as possible - I've owned 3 Sterling 5s over the last few years - HS, HH, H - I should have held on to the H - it was a blueburst with matching headstock. I had bills to pay and had to sell them. I had been looking for a H for over a year - did a search and found this one at a music store - did the trade - got a good one - only 9 lbs.!

If you ever find another one like it, please let me know. Great looking bass, love it!

Those necks are just the best. (I had to off my Sterling 5 but I do still have the same profile on my Big AL 5H.)

My first choice on color would have been honey burst or blue burst, but tobacco is nice. My 4H was also tobacco, but was more brown than this - it was a 2006 - looks like the current tobacco burst has more black in it? I picked up a really light weight Sterling 5H at NAMM back in January - candy red - felt like about 8 lbs! I wish I could have bought that one, but I'm sure it was already sold to a dealer.

Fabulous - congrats and enjoy.

I thought you were a double humbucker Sabreman, BradfordWS - does this mark a reform :)

Don't be fooled by my avatar photo - that's the one that got away! I had that Sabre back around 1985 and sold it to fund another bass, of course - I've had GAS since I was very young! I failed to mention that I actually prefer the single H after having tried the HH and HS - something about the simplicity of one pup - this one's a keeper as far as I can tell. I can't wait to play it out at a gig next month!

Difference in Tobacco Burst / output jack issue

Tobacco burst used to be dark brown around the edge like the 2006 Sterling 4H that I traded for my new Sterling 5H - the new tobacco burst is either very dark brown or black around the edge. Anyone know when this changed? The current burst is cool, but I kinda dig the older "browner" burst better.

Also - I just had the output jack replaced in the new Sterling 5H - was squealing like a pig. I did a search on this and found that this might be a common issue, although it's my first encounter with it.

Any thoughts on these 2 topics?

It's all good now - new jack - great bass!
