Nbd/ Big Al single H praise!

Now they are two:

BP's was right. The single H Big Al is an incredibly good sounding bass and it kills in passive mode. And that low B is just sweet...

Sweet bass!!!!! Classic colour combo. How do you like the single H compared to the SSS? Is there a 'secret' setting like the SSS in series? Can't imagine how good the passive tone must be? Congrats!

Thank you!

I did not have that much time with it by now, but it is a totally different animal soundwise, when compared to the SSS.

It has no secret setting, because all 4 sound really good right from the start. I really like the series mode both active and passive and the deep clear voice of the mahogany. It does not have that Swiss army knife feeling of the SSS, but there is more than enough possibilities from the EQ alone. It has an overall punchy and responsive sound.

Damn near to the perfect bass again.

@ Oli: I don't know, but we have not heard much about all the roasteds yet.

Cellkirk: is it possible for you to do some recordings of both basses? I know there are a million settings, but I am curious about following:

1. Big Al SSS Bridge and Middle in Series Active
2. Big Al SSS Bridge and Middle in Parallel Active
3. Big Al H in Series Active
4. Big Al H in Parallel. Active
5. Surprise me with something on the Big Al H that I would not have considered.

I will try to do so, but probably not before the weekend. I have to get a new audio interface first or use the jamman looper.

Hold on a second!!! I just noticed now that it's a roasted....nice score!!!! I'm dying to try one out. I love the feel of the neck on my classic and can only imagine how it must feel with the Big Al's profile, and throw in the tonal characteristics the roasteds are supposed to have. Would love to hear your impressions so I can begin my late winter/early spring gas attacks.

The alder body of the big Al Olive Gold does add some tonal nuances for sure. The knife analogy is very accurate. I am envious of this new BA5!!!
